Rumour: Nissan Kicks to launch in India in Q3 2018

As per media reports, Nissan will likely be launching the Kicks SUV in India in the third quarter of next year, i.e. July - September 2018. The Kicks was globally unveiled last year and is already on sale in Brazil. Nissan India hasn't yet revealed any official information about the Kicks' potential launch in the country.

The India-spec Kicks will reportedly be built on an updated version of Renault's M0 platform, which underpins the Duster. This updated version of the M0 platform is also expected to be used in the upcoming Renault Kaptur crossover. Interestingly, the international-spec Kicks is built on Nissan's V-platform. However, since the Renault-Nissan alliance has already localized the M0 platform in India, the company decided to use it for the India-spec model to keep prices competitive.

Since the M0 platform has chiefly been developed by Renault, the updated version of the M0 platform will first debut in the Renault Kaptur, which will then be followed by the launch of the Nissan Kicks. While the platform will be different, the India-spec Kicks is expected to borrow its design and styling from the international model.

As the Nissan Kicks in India will be built on the M0 platform, it will likely be powered by a 1.6-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. These are the same engines that currently power the Duster and are expected to be offered with the upcoming Renault Kaptur as well.
