Rumour: Royal Enfield Continental GT discontinued in India

According to a media report, Royal Enfield has discontinued the Continental GT in India. Production of the bike has reportedly been ceased and dealerships have stopped accepting new bookings for the bike.

The Continental GT was first introduced in 2013. The bike has a cafe racer styling with clip-on handle bars and a contoured fuel tank profile. It is based around a twin-cradle frame supported by 41 mm telescopic forks in the front and twin Paioli shock absorbers in the rear.

The Continental GT is powered by a 535 cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected, air-cooled engine which produces 29 BHP @ 5,100 rpm and 44 Nm of peak torque @ 4,000 rpm. The engine comes paired with a 5-speed gearbox. Brakes come in the form of a single 300 mm floating Brembo disc in the front and a 240 mm disc in the rear. The Continental GT rides on 18-inch rims shod with 100/90 section front and 130/70 section rear Pirelli Sport Demon tyres.

There has been no official word from Royal Enfield confirming these reports. Though it is likely that the company would be looking to replace the older Continental GT with the recently unveiled 650 cc twins rather than have both models in the line-up.
