Rumour: Suzuki to withdraw Inazuma from India by March 2015

Last month, we reported that Suzuki Motorcycle India has pulled the Inazuma motorcycle off its website leading to speculation that the company had either discontinued or was planning to discontinue the bike in the market. Now, media reports suggest that the company is planning to its stop sales from the end of this fiscal.

The Inazuma was launched in India in January this year. However, the bike failed to attract many customers, mainly due to its rather high price of Rs. 3.10 (ex-showroom, Delhi). In June, following feedback from dealers, Suzuki reduced the price of the Inazuma to Rs. 2.09 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) making its price appear a lot more competitive. However, compared to bikes like the KTM Duke 390, which are significantly more powerful at a similar price point, it was still over-priced. Suzuki even compensated existing owners by refunding the difference in price. However, despite the reduced price and the goodwill building measures, the motorcycle struggled to find takers. Additionally, the company was also finding it unviable to sell the bike at the lowered price. This has prompted the company to pull the bike off the market from March 2015. The good news for existing owners is that their bikes will continue to get spares and service and support from Suzuki.

The Inazuma was powered by a 248 cc, 24 bhp, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It had a telescopic fork suspension at the front, a monoshock at the rear, disc brakes and 17-inch, 3-spoke alloy wheels shod with 110/80-70 and 140/70-70 tubeless tyres at the front and rear, respectively.
