Spy images: Maruti Suzuki Celerio ZXi AMT

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Celerio ZXi with automated manual transmission (AMT) has been spotted.

The Celerio was the first car in India to be available with AMT (Auto Gear Shift as Maruti prefers to call it). The transmission does not need a clutch to be depressed and makes the car relatively stress-free to drive, particularly in traffic. This, coupled with the small size of the Celerio and the frugal nature of its engine has resulted in the car's popularity soaring.

The Auto Gear Shift system has been available only on the VXi variant of the hatchback. With the ZXi being equipped with the technology, Maruti will be hoping to broaden the car's appeal. The additional features available in the ZXi AMT variant over the VXi AMT are body coloured door handles and mirrors, fog lamps, electrically adjustable ORVMs, tilt steering, integrated music system with CD, USB, AUX-in and Bluetooth with 4 speakers, remote locking and steering mounted controls. Safety features include ABS and dual airbags.

Like other variants, the Celerio ZXi AMT will be powered by a 998 cc, 3-cylinder, K10B petrol engine, capable of producing 67 bhp @ 6000 rpm and 90 Nm of torque @ 3500 rpm. The car is expected to be launched soon.

The ZXi(O) variant of the Celerio with AMT has also been spied. However, this version is likely to be sold in export markets only.
