Sub-4 metre Renault MPV (codenamed: RBC) caught testing

A test mule of a new sub-4 meter MPV (codenamed: RBC) from Renault has been spotted for the first time. The vehicle could be launched in 2019 and is expected to be positioned below the Lodgy.

A media report suggests that the new MPV will be based on Renault's CMF-A+ platform, which is a variation of the architecture that underpins the Kwid. While the vehicle will be less than 4 meters in overall length, it will have a third row of seats. At present, Renault's sister brand, Datsun offers the GO+ 7-seater MPV, which looks like just an extended version of the GO hatchback. Unlike Datsun, Renault is expected to distinguish its MPV from the Kwid hatchback by giving it larger wheels and tyres. 

While the test mule has been wrapped in heavy camouflage, one can easily make out the car's high roof line. The front fascia appears to have been styled along the lines of Renault's latest design philosophy. The car has a V-shaped grille with horizontal slats, which is flanked by sweptback headlights. It also features a pair of LED DRLs that are placed on the front bumper. 

According to the media report, the new MPV is expected to be powered by a turbocharged engine, possibly a retuned version of the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder unit that powers the Kwid. Renault is not likely to offer a diesel engine option in this car.
