Transmission error in my pre-owned BMW just after a few days of driving

A quick check on Google shows that this is a fairly known issue in BMW cars but quite a costly affair to fix.

Hello,

I am based in Pune and recently bought a pre-owned BMW and after a few days of driving, I got a message saying - Transmission: Secure vehicle with parking brake when stationary.

A quick check on Google shows that this is a fairly known issue in BMW cars but quite a costly affair to fix. Apparently, this is a problem with the gear shift assembly & may cost a bomb if the entire thing has to be replaced at the service centre.

YouTube videos talk about this being caused specifically by a broken spring but, of course, is a very involved process. I am putting this problem here to check if anyone here has faced a similar problem and what steps were taken to fix it.

Got the error scanned and here is what we got - Shiftlock Solenoid: Selector lever wrongly not locked in P.

A quick read on the internet says it’s a problem with a spring. It’s a 2017 model and out of warranty.

Here's what BHPian Maverick5490 had to say about the matter:

What are the symptoms you are getting while driving? Is the vehicle jerking or not shifting to R/D? Open the bonnet and below the left headlight is the transmission control unit. Check if there is rodent damage, could be one of the causes. Alternatively, how old is the car and does it have a service record at the dealership? You can push for replacement under goodwill.
