Tyre cut on my Porsche 911; should I replace the tyre or not

So this happened to my Porsche 911. The unkindest cut of all.

So this happened to my Porsche 911. The unkindest cut of all. I'm guessing this requires a replacement? Suggestions welcome.

Here's what BHPian EV NXT had to say on the matter:

This looks like a manufacturing defect as there aren’t any marks on the rim - usually a fall out of such a deep cut. The only other probability is under inflation given the stretch marks to the left and right of the cut but I don’t think you would under inflate your tyres.

If the manufacturer has representation in India, and you have the time and inclination you could press for a claim.

I feel rolling diameter difference due to wear is acceptable.

Rolling diameter difference due to normal wear and tear is acceptable but if it’s due to a replacement such as this it will have an effect on handling. But then again it depends on the speeds one drives these cars. If it’s on the slower side you should be okay with the difference.

Here's what BHPian lamborghini had to say on the matter:

These really hurt, but sadly are part and parcel of our road conditions! Will have to replace the tyre, not worth any jugaad/fix given what the car is capable of.

Here's what BHPian iliketurtles had to say on the matter:

That sucks tremendously, man. My heartfelt commiserations.

Yep, it's a definite tyre replacement. Don't mess around with tyres and brakes, just get a new tyre and call it a day. Grin and bear it.

Here's what BHPian Dante had to say on the matter:

This happened with my BMW 5. Unfortunately, yes, it needs a replacement. It is beyond repairs. You can replace one tire instead of both but please make sure the brand & model is the exact same otherwise you will have traction issues.
