USA: New reverse-only parking spaces in LA confuse motorists

The drivers drove past lanes of traffic to park head-in and disrupt the flow on the busy street.

According to media reports, a neighbourhood in Los Angeles, USA, called Woodland Hills recently converted its parallel parking spots into reverse-only diagonal spaces to increase capacity. The conversion helps increase the parking capacity, which is mainly residential, but has a few businesses and also acts as a delivery conduit for malls.

However, reports state that many drivers didn't know how to navigate the parking. The drivers drove past lanes of traffic to park head-in and disrupt the flow on the busy street. Reports also state that many cars blocked traffic as they tried to reverse in, while others circled the block multiple times before attempting to park. There was also one confused girl who circled the block almost 6 times before quitting and driving away.

While the reverse-only spaces have increased parking capacity from 97 to 121, many of the residents and business owners have dismissed the change as a headache. Some business owners also believe the change has slowed down their sales, while others seem to see no change apart from confused customers.
