Volkswagen has quietly introduced a new variant of the Polo. Called the Highline Plus, it is expected to be priced at a premium of Rs. 26,000 over the standard Highline trim level.

Positioned above the Highline and below the GT variants, the Polo Highline Plus gets 16-inch alloys in place of the 15-inch wheels that were available on the Highline trim. A reversing camera and an upgraded touchscreen infotainment system are available as a part of standard equipment on this variant.

The Polo Highline Plus comes with the same engines as Highline. These include a 1,198cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that develops 74 BHP @ 5,400 rpm and 110 Nm @ 3,750 rpm and a 1,498cc, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 89 BHP @ 4,200 rpm and 230 Nm @ 1,500-2,500 rpm. Both engines are coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission.

According to a report by Autocar India, the Ameo will also get a Highline Plus variant. It will be equipped with a reversing camera and revised infotainment system as a standard. However, the upgrade to 16-inch wheels will be optional.

The Ameo Highline Plus will use the same petrol engines as the Ameo Highline. The 3-cylinder petrol engine displaces 1,198cc and develops 74 BHP @ 5,400 rpm and 110 Nm @ 3,750 rpm, which is identical to the Polo Highline Plus. On the other hand, the 4-cylinder diesel unit, which displaces 1,498cc makes 109 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 250 Nm @ 1,500-3,000 rpm. While both - petrol and diesel variants get a 5-speed manual gearbox, it is unclear whether the Ameo diesel will get the 7-speed DSG transmission that is available in the Highline and Comfortline variants.
