Volkswagen Virtus gets a 1.6L petrol engine in South Africa

In South Africa, the VW Virtus is offered in two variants, priced from Rs 14.8 lakh (approx.)

Volkswagen has introduced the Virtus in South Africa. Sold under the brand name 'Polo Sedan', the new mid-sized car is available with a 1.6-litre petrol engine.

Unlike the VW Virtus sold in India, which comes with 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines, the Polo Sedan is offered with a 1.6-litre MPI 4-cylinder unit that puts out 108 BHP @ 5,800 rpm and 152 Nm @ 3,840-4,100 rpm. It is the same engine that VW offered in the Vento and Rapid in India and comes paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

South African customers can choose from two variants of Polo Sedan: Sedan and Life, with an approximate price of Rs 14.8 lakh and Rs 17 lakh, respectively.

The base variant gets features like automatic LED headlights and taillights, rain-sensing wipers, electric ORVMs, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, an 8-speaker audio system and air-conditioning.

The Life variant packs a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a wireless charger, cruise control, keyless entry, engine start/stop button, electric foldable ORVMs, automatic climate control, rearview camera, ambient lighting, front and rear armrests and 16-inch alloy wheels.
