VW Ameo launched with 1.0L petrol engine

Volkswagen has introduced the 1.0-litre, petrol engine on the Ameo compact sedan. It replaces the old 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol unit. VW has also launched the limited edition Ameo Pace powered by the new 1.0-litre engine. It is priced at Rs. 6.10 lakh (ex-showroom). The Ameo Pace is based on the Comfortline trim. It gets additional features like cruise control, glossy black ORVM housing and boot spoiler as standard.

The 1.0-litre petrol engine was first launched on the Polo in March 2018. The same engine will now power the Ameo. The new BS-VI compliant 999 cc, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine makes 75 BHP @ 6,200 rpm and 95 Nm of torque @ 3,000-4,000 rpm. If you compare it with the old 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine, the overall output is almost similar, while torque has reduced by 15 Nm. Like the Polo, the Ameo 1.0L will be available with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Meanwhile, VW will continue to offer the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine on the Ameo. This engine makes 109 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 250 Nm @ 1,500-3,000 rpm and comes paired with either a 5-speed manual or an optional 7-speed DSG.
