VW reveals 10-speed DSG gearbox and a 268 bhp TDI engine

Volkswagen's latest update for India has come in the form of the 7-Speed DSG automatic gearbox on the Vento TDI Facelift (Also added to the Skoda Rapid diesel). On the international front though, the German car maker has taken a larger leap forward with an all new TDI engine that produces 238 bhp of power and they have also introduced a new 10-Speed DSG automatic that will be available for engines that produce up to 550 Nm of torque.

The 2.0-litre, four cylinder engine will make its way onto the European Passat and while it has 238 bhp of power on tap, Volkswagen says the engine can produce up to 268 bhp with the use of variable valve timing, reworked gas exchange cycles and an electric booster. With a power output of nearly 120 bhp per litre of displacement, the new mill is the most powerful four cylinder TDI engine ever put into production. Volkswagen says the engine is capable of hitting a top speed of 240 km/h, with claimed fuel consumption figures coming in at 5.3 L/100 km (nearly 19 km/l).
