Zest rolls out from Tata-Fiat's Ranjangaon plant

Tata Motors has started rolling out the Zest compact sedan from the Tata-Fiat Ranjangoan manufacturing facility. We have obtained pictures from an anonymous source showing the roll out of the latest offering from the Tata Motors stable, being celebrated by the employees at the plant. This is the same plant where the company manufactures the Manza sedan as well.

In the recent past, Tata Motors has not been doing too well in terms of sales in the Indian market. The company has been steadily losing ground to competitors like Maruti, Hyundai and Honda. That makes the Zest and its upcoming hatchback sibling, the Bolt, very important products. The success of these cars will have to be ensured if Tata Motors wants to put up a fight against the others. For that, the company is not leaving any stone unturned. Personnel are being hired and trained and the dealership and service network is being revamped and modernised.

Financial Express reports that Tata Motors will offer a warranty of six years on the Zest for the first few months. This will include a three- year standard warranty and a three-year extended warranty. While the warranty will cover only manufacturing defects, a three-year maintenance coverage for any other problem the owner may face. A 24x7 roadside assistance service will also be provided.

The Zest will come with a choice of two engines:

  • 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, 89 bhp turbocharged petrol engine from Tata Motors' Revotron engine family
  • 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, 89 bhp Quadrajet diesel

While the petrol will get only a 5-speed manual gearbox, the diesel will get an automated manual transmission (AMT) as well.
