According to a media report, Nissan is planning to launch a sub-4 meter SUV in India. The vehicle is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of this year.
The media report suggests that the SUV will be based on a new platform, which is said to have been developed in Japan with inputs from Nissan India. It is expected to be built at Nissan's manufacturing facility at Oragadam, near Chennai.
The sub-4 SUV model could borrow styling cues from Nissan's larger SUVs. The car is expected to get new engine and transmission options, details of which are not known. It is expected to compete with the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon in the Indian market.
Nissan has reportedly conducted feasibility studies to launch other SUVs from its global portfolio in India. These include the Pathfinder, Patrol, Juke and Qashqai.

Kia has released teaser images of its upcoming compact SUV concept (codename: QYi). It is expected to be unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The concept gets a tiger nose grille and headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. The front bumper has large vents and silver inserts. At the rear, it gets wraparound tail lights with a light bar in the centre.
The production-spec QYi will share its underpinnings with the Hyundai Venue. It is expected to be offered with the same engine options as the Hyundai Venue. It could get the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and more than one automatic transmission option.

A test mule of a vehicle which is believed to be based on Citroen's sub-4 meter SUV platform for India has been spotted testing. It is expected to underpin a new model codenamed C21.
The new platform is expected to be a modified version of the platform that underpins the Citroen C3 and Peugeot 208. The test mule has a 208 bodyshell, which has been raised to accommodate the increased ground clearance.
Reports suggest that the Citroen C21 could be offered with naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions of a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel. Transmission options might include a 6-speed manual. An automatic transmission could be launched later.

Tata Motors' upcoming sub-4 meter SUV codenamed: H2X / Hornbill has been spied testing.
The spy images suggest that the vehicle's styling could be based on the H2X concept, which was showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
The car appears to have squared-off wheel arches. The tail lights look similar to those seen on the concept car. It has a rear windshield wiper and the door handles for the rear doors are likely to be positioned on the C-pillar. The test car does not have a split rear spoiler like the H2X concept.

It is rumoured that Tata Motors' micro-SUV (Codenamed X445 / Hornbill) is likely to be offered with a petrol engine only. Apparently, all prototypes of the car inside the Tata Motors plant are powered by petrol engines, suggesting it might not get a diesel engine option.
The Tata Hornbill is expected to be based on the Advanced Modular Platform (AMP) that is likely to underpin other upcoming Tata cars. The Hornbill could use the 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine from the Tiago paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed automated manual transmission.

Renault has filed a trademark application for the name 'Kiger'.
As we have reported in July 2019, the French company is planning a new sub-4 m SUV (codenamed: HBC) for India. This car could be named "Kiger".
The Kiger is expected to be based on the CMF-A+ platform. But, unlike the Triber, it could be a 5-seater.
The Kiger is unlikely to get a diesel engine option. Instead, the sub-4 meter SUV could be powered by a 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine. Transmission options might include a manual and automated manual transmission (AMT).

Skoda has released the first design sketch revealing the interior of the Vision IN concept SUV. It will be unveiled at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo.
The Skoda Vision IN concept SUV is 4.26 meters long and has been developed for the Indian market. It is based on a localised sub-compact MQB A0 IN modular transverse matrix.
On the inside, the car gets a dual-tone dashboard with a layered design. It has chrome trim, orange inserts and a centre armrest wrapped in orange. It has hexagonal air vents and a large touchscreen infotainment head-unit. The centre console also houses a gear selector button and a crystalline element. The Vision IN has a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster.
