The Delhi government is planning to start a doorstep service for documents like driving licenses (DL) and vehicle registration certificates (RC). Those opting for this service could be charged an additional fee of Rs. 50.

Applicants who wish to avail of this service will have to call a helpline number. Once an appointment is fixed, a 'mobile sahayak' will visit their home with a tablet to get the required online forms filled up. This service aims to assist those facing difficulty filling up the online forms, which are now mandatory.

Those applying for a new driving license are required to have a learners' license and will have to provide a passport size photograph. Upon submission of the online application, the applicants will be given a slot for the driving test, which will be conducted at the RTO. Once the test has been cleared, the permanent driving license will be delivered to their doorstep.

The process to obtain a transfer certificate (TC) will be similar. In this case, the applicant will have to submit the original RC, address proof of purchaser and PUC certificate. The transfer certificate and RC will be home-delivered.

IOC launches diesel home delivery service in Pune

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has launched a new fuel delivery service in Pune. A mobile dispenser will deliver diesel to your doorstep and it has been reported that the company is likely to take a decision on starting a similar home delivery service of petrol later.

According to Sanjiv Singh, IOC Chairman and Managing Director, the service will initially offer home delivery of diesel, since it is easier to handle on a mobile dispenser. Meanwhile, proposals for a similar petrol delivery service have been submitted to the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) - the licensing authority. IOC is also evaluating different modes of distribution for the safe delivery of fuel.

In April 2017, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had stated that the government was exploring options for doorstep delivery of petroleum products to consumers with an aim to reduce queues at fuel stations.

A Bangalore start-up called MyPetrolPump had started a similar service however it was suspended within days of its launch after PESO blocked delivery of fuel to the company sighting safety concerns.

A consumer brand of ANB Fuels Private Limited named Mypetrolpump has started delivering fuel at customers' doorsteps.

www.mypetrolpump.com is an online platform through which you can pre-book/order refuelling at your location. Currently, the service is operational at select areas of Bangalore (HSR Layout, Koramangla, Bellandur, BTM & Bomanahalli & nearby at PIN codes - 560102, 560103, 560034, 560095, 560076 & 560068). The company will be expanding their service to other locations in the near future.

You can place an order by visiting the website or by calling on 7880504050. A free smartphone app will soon be introduced on Apple App Store and Google Play Store. At present, the Mypetrolpump is only delivering diesel and the minimum order should be for 20 litres. The home delivery charges are Rs. 99 for any order of up to 100 litres. Above this, you have to pay Re. 1 per litre above the fuel price. You can put in a request for frequent requirement of fuel and avoid ordering every time there is a need of fuel. Cash or POS machine payment by swiping cards are accepted as of now.

Mypetrolpump claims that it gets the fuel from authorized dealers of oil companies near the location provided by the customer. It also claims that the fuel is sourced only upon receiving pre-bookings from customers and does not purchase or stock fuel prior to delivery.

The Government of India has also been considering home delivery of fuel in order to minimize the loss of fuel and time while waiting in long queues at fuel stations.

Team-BHP scoops Tata Motors's new doorstep service initiative

Consistent Service Quality. This is one major pillar in Tata Motors's four pronged HORIZONEXT strategy for its passenger car business. Through the HORIZONEXT program, Tata Motors plans to revamp its image to one that is highly attuned and responsive to the car buyer's needs. After sales service, being a crucial aspect that makes or breaks the car ownership experience in the long term, will be given due focus in this strategy.

Also, the customer staying with the brand during subsequent purchases is largely determined by the quality of after sales service rendered previously. Dealers for their part make big money not just by selling cars, but also by dispensing service to cars already sold. In essence, after sales service is a factor that no car/two wheeler brand can choose to be laid back about, especially in the face of ever increasing competition.

While industry leader Maruti Suzuki is known for its good after sales service, Tata car owners have often complained of inconsistent service experiences. Tata Motors's HORIZONEXT strategy plans to improve after sales service through a slew of measures at the dealership/authorised service center level. Tata Motors's dealership subsidiary, Concorde Motors, will lead the car maker's push for better after sales service.

Team-BHP has scooped one such initiative. Tata Motors has modified Super Ace pick up trucks to serve as doorstep service dispensing vehicles. These pick up trucks will go to the customer's doorstep, either at homes or offices, for scheduled maintenance of Tata cars. A team of specially trained mechanics will handle the doorstep servicing of cars.

By introducing the doorstep service initiative, Tata Motors is venturing into an area that has thus far seen players operating mainly in the luxury car and high end motorcycle space. For instance, DSK-Hyosung has a doorstep service initiative for its high end range of motorcycles while Suzuki too has a similar service initiative in place for motorcycles such as the Bandit, GSX-R and Hayabusa. Such doorstep service initiatives also exist for high end luxury and sportscar brands. If Tata Motors's Doorstep Service Initiative becomes a hit, many other car makers could soon follow suit.
