DSK plans to manufacture entire Hyosung range in India

DSK Motowheels, which assembles and sells motorcycles in India for Hyosung, has plans to manufacture the entire range of bikes from the Korean manufacturer in India.

According to a media report, the Pune-based company and Hyosung are in the process of finalising a deal, which will see the Indian company locally source components and manufacture all Hyosung products in the country. Hyosung is also reported to be planning to bring its R&D operations to India. Products built in India are likely to be sold in the domestic as well as export markets as the country is likely to become its primary manufacturing base.

DSK's current facility is located at Wai, near Pune. The plant has a capacity of 70-80 units a month and the company is planning to start assembly of Benelli motorcycles. DSK will obviously need to increase the capacity if it is to start manufacturing Hyosung motorcycles locally.

Locally manufacturing two-wheelers is expected to bring their prices down considerably.

Hyosung launches refreshed GT250R

Korean motorcycle manufacturer, Hyosung has launched the GT250R facelift in India.

The facelifted GT250R gets a restyled fairing and headlamp. The bike now resembles its bigger sibling, the GT650R. The two can be told apart by their exhausts - the 250 has an aluminium-finished one, while the 650's is finished in matt black and by the width of the tyres.

Additionally, there are three new colours - red titanium, black titanium and white titanium, each of which will be available in three tone shades.

Mechanically, the GT250R is unchanged. It continues to use the 249 cc, fuel-injected, oil-cooled, V-Twin engine as before. The unit produces 27.6 bhp @ 10000 rpm and 22.07 Nm of torque @ 8000 rpm and is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

Hyosung GT250R gets facelift; bookings open

Korean motorcycle manufacturer, Hyosung is preparing to introduce the GT250R facelift in India. A picture put up by Top Gear shows that the facelift consists of a couple of mild updates to the styling of the bike.

The facelift features a redesigned fairing and a new headlight. The fairing is now similar looking to the more expensive GT650R. In fact, because of the changes, the GT250R is now difficult to tell apart from its larger sibling. The only visual difference between the two bikes is that the 250R sports an exhaust with an aluminium finish while that of the 650R gets a matt black finish. Additionally, the 250R's tyres are thinner than those of the 650R.

On the mechanical front there are no changes to the GT250R. It continues to use the 249 cc, fuel-injected, V-Twin engine as before. The unit produces 28 bhp @ 10000 rpm and 22.07 Nm of torque @ 8000 rpm and is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

The official launch of the GT250R is rumoured to be around the corner. Hyosung is accepting bookings for the bike, which has been priced at Rs. 3.11 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Garware Motors to Launch the Hyosung GT250R

There's now a barrage of 200+ cc bikes in India. How things have changed, and for the better we say! It all started with the 225cc Hero Honda Karizma, then came the 220cc Bajaj Pulsar and more recently, we have seen the Kawasaki Ninja 250R, Honda CBR 250R & KTM Duke 200. Garware Motors joins the fray with the Hyosung GT250R.

Basic Specifications of the Hyosung GT250R:

  • Engine Type: Air / Oil cooled DOHC 8-valve 75° V-twin
  • Displacement: 249cc
  • Power: 26.27 BHP @ 10,000 rpm
  • Torque: 21.04Nm @ 6,750 rpm

Direct competitors of the GT250R are the Honda CBR250R and the Kawasaki Ninja 250R. These two bikes are poles apart from each other in terms of character; the Honda is more of a tourer, while the Ninja is an all-out sports bike. This reflects in their engine specifications too. While the Honda makes do with a low-revving single cylinder, high torque engine (25 BHP @ 8500 rpm, 22.9 Nm @ 7,000 rpm), the Ninja has a parallel twin, free-revving powerplant (32.5 BHP @ 11,000 rpm, 22 Nm @ 8,200/9,500 rpm). The Hyosung slots itself right in between the two, with a V-Twin engine producing a decent amount of power. Apparently, the chassis is geared more towards handling than cruising. The price difference between the CBR250R & the Ninja 250R is vast. The Honda starts at Rs. 1.47 Lakhs and the Ninja at Rs. 2.85 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). Expect the Hyosung to be positioned between Rs. 1.7 Lakh to Rs. 2 Lakh.

Garware Motors already sells three models, viz. ST7 Royale, GT 650R and GT 650N in India. The company has 16 dealerships, which also includes presence in tier II and tier III cities.
