Hyundai i20 Active global debut in March 2015

Hyundai has officially confirmed that it will reveal the Active i20 next month. The pseudo SUV - based on the B2 segment Elite i20 has been crafted at Hyundai’s design centre in Russelsheim, Germany. The crossover will take on the likes of the Fiat Avventura, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross and the global debut will take place in India.

The South Korean car maker has also released official renders of the crossover, though recent spy shots have revealed the primary styling cues already. Apart from an increase in ground clearance and select tweaks on the interior, the updates include black cladding around the skirting and bumpers, silver roof rails, newly designed alloy wheels, a new exterior paint shade and circular fog lamps at the front and back.

The car also features projector headlamps, silver skid plates, a rear spoiler and the thicker eyebrows above the headlamps indicate the likely addition of LED DRLs. The front grille has also been placed inversely as compared to the Elite i20 and skips the metallic honeycomb mesh for 5 black slats. The fuel filler cap gets a silver finish and the variant nomenclature may be similar to that of the Hyundai Verna.

A big thank you to Team-BHP fan Abhijeet More for sharing these images with fellow enthusiasts!

Hyundai has seen a successful run with the arrival of the Elite i20. In order to capitalize on the B2 segment hatchback's success, Hyundai has been testing a pseudo-SUV based on the new car. After a multitude of camouflaged spy shots, fresh images of the car sans-camouflage have finally arrived. Labelled the i20 Cross until now, the badging on the car indicates that the crossover will be named the i20 Active.

The car features a familiar level of cosmetic alterations. Updates include black cladding around the skirting and bumpers, silver roof rails, newly designed alloy wheels, a new exterior paint shade and circular fog lamps at the front and back. The fuel filler cap gets a silver finish and the car also seems to get a different variant nomenclature as shown by the "SX" badging on the spied vehicle.

According to the photographer, the car gets an evident increase in ground clearance, along with a likely tweak in dashboard colour. The car in question is the diesel variant and was snapped while on a promotional shoot, suggesting the possibility of a launch in a few weeks' time. Rivals for the i20 Active will include the Fiat Avventura, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross.
