Rumour: Next-gen Innova global unveil on November 23, 2015

The Toyota Innova had been caught testing in India since as early as July 2014 (link). It is likely to hit showrooms in 2016 and will most probably be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.

Now, a report indicates that Toyota will be globally unveiling the Innova on November 23, 2015. This unveil is most likely to take place in Indonesia along with the launch of the MPV in that market, as per KompasOtomotif.

In our previous news article, we shared that the current Innova (in its GX trim only) will continue to be sold alongside the new Innova, catering to the taxi market. The new Innova will be restricted to private users for the first one year.

Recently, Toyota imported several units of the Innova 2.4L diesel from Indonesia for R&D purposes. This motor could be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The next-gen Innova is once again likely to dominate its segment which has gathered the trust of buyers due to its bullet-proof reliability and serviceability. If recent images of the Hexa are anything to go by, Tata seems to have a competent challenger lined up to take on the Innova.

Toyota imports Innova with 2.4-litre diesel engine for R&D

Toyota has imported some more units of the Innova MPV for R&D purposes. The import data indicates that the vehicles have a 2.4-litre diesel engine. This power plant is likely to be from the GD family of engines that Toyota had displayed at Vienna earlier this year.

The GD range, which replaces the KD range, consists of two engines - a 2.4-litre unit and a 2.8-litre power plant. These engines will be used to power the Innova and Fortuner.

The 2.4-litre engine has a variable geometry turbo. The engine can be mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. It features Toyota's Economy with Superior Thermal Efficient Combustion (ESTEC) technology.

The new engine replaces the 2.5-litre unit that is found in the current Innova. It is expected to be more fuel efficient and less polluting.

The new Innova is likely to be displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo, which will be held in February next year.

An Insider on Toyota India's future plans

Thank you to BHPian mroptimist for sharing this information with other enthusiasts.

Toyota's future plans have been revealed. Here's a look at what we can expect:

  1. Lexus will be launched this year.
  2. The plant shutdown for a week is a part of a routine process and nothing unusual. So do not expect to see a new assembly line being added.
  3. As suspected by many fellow BHPians the current Innova's production will stop in about three months' time to make way for an all new model.
  4. The current Innova will continue to be produced in its commercially popular trim GX for a year, mainly catering to the taxi segment. No other trim like E, G, VX and ZX of current Innova will be available three months from now.
  5. The all new Innova will have an ex-showroom price hike of Rs. 1-1.5 lakhs. The highest trim level is not expected to cost more than Rs. 22 lakhs on road.
  6. The all new Innova will be initially restricted for a year for personal buyers only.
  7. The all new Innova will come with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
  8. The Vios and Rush will be launched next year.
  9. Starting from 2016 until 2020 Toyota, will launch a total of 30 models (this includes the Lexus range).
  10. The current emphasis on safety will translate to all vehicles getting equipped with ABS as standard from January 2016.
  11. There is no news of a refreshed Etios Cross which has been speculated by some automotive websites.

2016 Toyota Innova image leaked

An image of the 2016 Toyota Innova has been leaked. The Indian Innova has received cosmetic makeovers from time to time but have resulted in making this MPV look uglier each time. However, with the 2016 Innova things seem a little different.

This MPV has got a sharper, edgier look in comparison to the bland, van-like styling of the outgoing car. The front end receives an imposing, aggressive face with a large air-dam, a twin-slat chrome grill integrating into the headlights. The headlamps seem to house projectors too. The bonnet appears flatter than before giving the Innova an SUV-like stance.

Prominent rear wheel arch, a sharp waist line and slimmer ORVMs add some character to the otherwise boring side profile of the Innova. The glass design of the third row looks similar to the Mitsubishi Outlander.

The 2016 Innova is likely to make its Indian debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. The newer car is likely to be positioned a notch above the outgoing car; in other words, it is going to be even more expensive! An Innova Cross variant based on the outgoing car might continue to sell alongside and will be priced lower than the 2016 Innova.

More details on the next-gen Innova. Innova Cross coming too.

Toyota's next-gen Innova was spotted testing in July 2014. We have also gotten a glimpse at its interiors. This time around, there is some more information on the mechanical aspect of this MPV.

The new Innova is likely to be based on a new chassis which is expected to be 80-90 kgs lighter than the current IMV platform (shared with the Fortuner and Hilux).

Powering the next-gen MPV is a new 2.0 or 2.2 liter diesel motor that is expected to be superior to the current 2.5 liter diesel in almost every aspect.

It goes without saying, that Toyota is likely to position the newer car a notch above the outgoing car, making it more luxurious and even more expensive.

MotorOctane also suggests the possible introduction of an Innova Cross, which shall sport a rugged body cladding and a fewer features, to go head-to-head against the current crop of MUVs. This cross variant will be based on the existing Innova and will use the same 2.5 liter diesel motor of the current Innova.

Both the next-gen Innova and Innova Cross are likely to hit showrooms only by the end of 2016 or early 2017.

Next-gen Toyota Innova dashboard spied

The dashboard of the next-generation Toyota Innova has been spied.

While the image is not very clear, it reveals a freshly designed dashboard, a new multi-function steering wheel, a large TFT screen for the infotainment system and rectangular air-conditioner vents.

Toyota has also made some changes to the design of the Innova. The MPV has a raised bonnet with a larger and more imposing grille, large swept-back headlamps, a pair of LED daytime running lights similar to the ones on the new Corolla sedan, new tail lamps and redesigned alloy wheels, shark fin antenna and a more modern rear wiper. The rear section of the car has an angular window and appears to be stretched, which could translate into better third row space.

While Toyota is expected to continue using a 2.5-litre diesel engine in the new Innova, it is likely to be more powerful than the current model.

Next-gen Toyota Innova caught on video

View Forum Discussion

Thanks to BHPian SunnyBoi for sharing this video with other enthusiasts.

The next-generation Toyota Innova has been spied once again. Many images of the test mules of the MPV have been posted over the months. This time, it has been captured on video.

Going by the images and the video, Toyota appears to have made some changes to the design of the vehicle. At the front is a raised bonnet with a larger and more imposing grille and large swept-back headlamps. The car also seems to have gained a pair of LED daytime running lights similar to the ones on the new Corolla sedan.

Viewed from the side, the new car appears similar to the current model but the rear section appears to be stretched. This could mean the third row space could have been increased. The car also sports redesigned alloy wheels and a shark fin antenna.

Coming to the rear, there is a pair of new horizontal wrap-around tail lamp clusters. The rear wiper has also been replaced with a smaller, more modern unit.

The Innova is also likely to get a revamped interior and a more powerful engine. The car is expected to be launched at Auto Expo 2016.

Scoop: Toyota's short-term product plans

Thanks to BHPian mints21 for sharing this information with other enthusiasts.

Japanese carmaker, Toyota's short-term product plans for India have been revealed. Here's a quick look at what's in store:

1. The next-generation Innova will be launched at Auto Expo, 2016. Team-BHP scooped the MPV in July this year. Toyota appears to have made some changes to the design of the vehicle. At the front is a raised bonnet with a larger and more imposing grille and large swept-back headlamps. Viewed from the side, the new car appears to have similar doors and windows to the current model. However, the design of the glass for the third row seems to have been changed and the ground clearance and the overhangs of the MPV seem to have been increased. The car also sports redesigned alloy wheels and a shark fin antenna. Coming to the rear, there is a pair of new horizontal wrap-around tail lamp clusters. The rear wiper has also been replaced with a smaller, more modern unit.

2. The current Innova will see more limited editions in the evening of its life and (unfortunately) price increases till December 2015. The current Innova is already expensive, and the new Innova is expected to be priced Rs. 1 - 1.5 lakh higher.

3. The all-new Fortuner will also be at the Auto Expo, 2016. The SUV has been spotted testing in Thailand. Click here to read what BHPians have to say about the new Fortuner.

4. Toyota is considering the launch of the Vios during the same period along with one more car (details of which are still not clear). At present, the Vios is manufactured in China, Thailand and Malaysia and sold in various Asian markets. Standing 4410 mm long, 1700 mm wide and 1475 mm high, the car follows Toyota's new design language, which we have seen on the recently launched, 11th generation Corolla Altis. It comes with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that puts out 108 bhp @ 6000 rpm and 141 Nm of torque @ 4200 rpm. The car comes with a choice of automatic or manual transmission. For India, we expect the 1.4-litre diesel engine from the current range to be considered as well. Click here to read what BHPians have to say about the Vios.
