Mahindra XUV500 to soon get Intelli-Hybrid tech

Thank you to BHPian Senna4Ever for sharing this information with other enthusiasts!

Mahindra appears to be planning to launch the XUV500 with Intelli-Hybrid technology in the near future. This information was revealed through a circular that has been released by the Transport Department of the Delhi Government, giving registration approval to Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. for the XUV500 Intelli-Hybrid.

Intelli-Hybrid is Mahindra's mild-hybrid technology that was introduced with the Scorpio in July last year. It includes an automatic start/stop mechanism that switches the engine off if the vehicle is stationary for three seconds. It also uses a large capacity battery and a different starter motor which can be used to assist the engine in certain driving conditions, especially during acceleration. The Intelli-Hybrid system further uses regenerative braking to capture the energy lost during braking and use it to charge the car's batteries. Mahindra claims that this mild-hybrid system can reduce fuel consumption by up to 7%.

According to the released circular, Mahindra will likely be offering the Intelli-Hybrid technology only on the FWD models of the XUV500. Being a mild-hybrid, the XUV will be sold with a concessional VAT of 5% for customers in Delhi. This can reduce its prices by around Rs. 1 lakh. However, since the SUV has a 2.2-litre diesel engine, Mahindra will need to pay an Environment Protection Charge of 1% on the car's ex-showroom price. This extra green cess was mandated last year by the Supreme Court after it revoked the ban on sales of diesel vehicles in Delhi & NCR.

Mahindra Scorpio 1.99L gets Intelli-Hybrid tech

Mahindra has introduced its Intelli-Hybrid technology for the Scorpio 1.99-litre variants in Delhi and NCR. The sub 2-litre Scorpio with Intelli-Hybrid is priced at Rs. 9.35 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base S4 model. Being a mild-hybrid variant, the Scorpio Intelli-Hybrid is eligible for a 5% concession on the Value Added Tax (VAT), which translates to a benefit of Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 90,000, depending on the trim level.

Intelli-Hybrid includes an auto on/off system that turns the engine off in case the vehicle is stationary for more than 3 seconds, and switches it on again when the driver steps on the throttle. Moreover, the Intelli-Hybrid system provides electric power assistance during acceleration. It also has a regenerative braking system that generates power from the brakes and feeds it back to charge the battery.

Power figures are unchanged at 120 BHP & 280 Nm of torque. The mild-hybrid kit is available in the S4, S4+, S4+ 4x4, S6+, S8, S10-2WD (Manual Transmission) and S10-4x4 (Manual Transmission) variants of the Scorpio in Delhi and NCR.

Mahindra had introduced this technology a couple of months back in the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel variants of the Scorpio. With the 1.99-litre variants also getting the Intelli-Hybrid hardware, the Scorpio is now being sold as a mild-hybrid throughout the country.

Mahindra Scorpio launched with Intelli-Hybrid technology

Mahindra has launched the Scorpio SUV with Intelli-Hybrid technology. This technology is essentially a mild-hybrid system that reduces fuel consumption by around 7%, as per the company's claims. The Scorpio Intelli-Hybrid is offered with the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, and is available in the S4, S4+, S4+ 4WD, S6+, S8, S10 2WD (Manual Transmission), S10 4WD (Manual Transmission) variants. The top-end S10-2WD (Manual Transmission) variant with Intelli-Hybrid technology is priced at Rs. 12.84 lakh (ex-showroom, Navi Mumbai).

The Intelli-Hybrid system in the Scorpio will include basic automatic start/stop, regenerative braking, a large capacity battery, and a different starter motor. This system will provide electrical assistance to the engine in certain driving conditions, especially during acceleration.

With the new tech, Scorpio has become the third vehicle In India to be equipped with a mild-hybrid system. Maruti offers similar technology under the SHVS name in its Ciaz sedan and Ertiga MPV. The Scorpio Intelli-Hybrid is thus the first SUV to get a mild-hybrid system in India.

Mahindra Scorpio coming with a mild-hybrid system

Mahindra is planning to introduce a mild-hybrid system in the Scorpio. Dubbed as 'Intelli-Hybrid', this mild-hybrid technology will only be available in the 2.2-litre powered variants, and hence will not be available to the Delhi-NCR customers who get the downsized 1.99-litre engine.

Currently, the Mahindra Scorpio gets a 'Micro-Hybrid' system, which is nothing but a simple automatic start/stop technology. However, the new 'Intelli-Hybrid' will be a proper mild-hybrid system, which will provide electrical assistance to the engine.

As a result, the 'Intelli-Hybrid' system will consist of the basic automatic start/stop functionality, regenerative braking, a large capacity battery, and an advanced integrated starter motor. This starter motor would function two roles: an alternator to charge the battery and a motor to provide electrical boost to the engine during certain driving conditions. This is expected to mildly improve the fuel economy of the Scorpio, and thus enhance its value for money image.

After its debut in the Scorpio, the mild-hybrid system will make way to other Mahindra products as well.
