Electra EV gifts Ratan Tata an electric Nano

The Nano Electric by Electra EV offers a maximum range of 160 km.

Electra EV - a maker of electric powertrains, has gifted an electric Nano to Mr. Ratan Tata.

The Nano EV has been custom-built by the company. It is based on a 72V architecture. The car uses super polymer lithium-ion batteries that are said to offer a maximum range of 160 km on a single charge. The company claims that the Nano EV takes less than 10 seconds to reach 60 km/h.

Tata Motors' electric vehicle portfolio includes the Nexon EV and the Tigor EV. The former is one of the most popular EVs in India. The company is now working on a long-range version of the electric crossover, which could be launched later this year.

Jayem Neo – Tata Nano EV to be launched on Nov 28, 2017

A test mule of the Tata Nano electric was spotted in September 2017 near Coimbatore. Now, according to a media report, the Nano-based electric vehicle (EV) will be launched on November 28, 2017 as the Jayem Neo.

Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives is reportedly going to manufacture and market the Nano-based EV. Tata Motors will supply body shells of the Nano, which will then be fitted with electric powertrains sourced from Electra EV. The cars will carry Jayem branding instead of Tata.

The report suggests that the first batch of 400 cars will be delivered to Ola Cabs. Apart from fleet operators, the company also has plans to sell a more powerful version of the EV to private buyers.

The Jayem Neo is expected to be powered by a 48-volt, 23 BHP electric motor. The car will reportedly have a maximum range of 200 km on a single charge. With air-conditioning and four people on-board, the range is expected to be reduced to 140 km.

The Jayem Neo is reported to weigh close to 800 kg. In comparison, the Nano GenX weighs between 695 kg and 765 kg depending upon the variant.

Jayem Automotives is yet to make an official announcement regarding the Neo.

Scoop! Tata Nano electric spotted testing in Coimbatore

Thanks to Venkatesh Chinnasamy for sending these images in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

The Tata Nano electric has been caught testing. The car was spotted near Coimbatore sporting the Nano GenX bodywork. While it looks like an ordinary Nano with a combustion engine, it is in fact an all-electric version - the '4BNEV-A08' window sticker being the only giveaway.

According to some media reports, the Nano electric was spotted in the same area last month. The car is expected to feature an electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries. But, details about the electric Nano's powertrain are scarce. The development of the electric powertrain has been taking place at the Tata Motors European Technical Centre in the U.K. The Bolt EV and more recently the Tiago EV Concept were developed here.

Rumour: Tata Nano Electric Vehicle spotted testing

Thanks to BHPian tushky who sent the spyshots in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts!

A test mule of the Tata Nano has been spotted testing with an open fuel filler area, which reportedly houses an electric power socket. This new spotting suggests that Tata Motors might be mulling to launch an Electric Vehicle (EV) variant of the Nano in the near future.

Another important thing worth noticing in the recent spy shots is the gap between the wheel arch and the tyres. The existing Nano AMT variant is currently the heaviest model in the Nano line-up. The car spotted testing has a suspension that has been compressed a lot more, even as compared to the Nano AMT. This might be a result of the heavy battery pack that this Nano EV test mule is lugging around.

Keeping in mind the narrow footprint and tall height of the Nano, Tata Motors would likely place the battery pack closer to the floor of the car in order to enhance its centre of gravity and weight distribution. Though detailed specifications of the electric powertrain on offer aren't out yet, the Nano Electric would likely retain the rear wheel drive layout.

If launched, the Tata Nano Electric Vehicle can benefit from the diesel ban that is currently applicable in Delhi NCR, and will likely spread to more cities in the near future. Moreover, the Centre Government's NEMMP 2020 (National Electric Mobility Mission Plan) will also help the Nano Electric to take advantage of government driven subsidies and customer benefits.
