The Lamborghini Gallardo valued at around Rs 1 crore, was completely destroyed in the fire.

Fire tenders rushed to the spot but by the time they could douse the flame; the car was completely burnt.

The Lamborghini Gallardo valued at around Rs 1 crore, was registered in the name of Neeraj, who has filed a complaint at the local police station. BHPians share their favourite exhaust style in cars

Not too long ago, exhaust meant just a small piece of metal, whereas now, it plays as significant role in the aesthetics and driving feel of a car.

BHPian mgastor2022grey recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

The Indian car scene is changing rapidly, so do the various styles adopted by the manufacturers. Not too long ago, exhaust meant just a small piece of metal, whereas now, it plays as significant role in the aesthetics and driving feel of a car. BHPians, what's your favorite exhaust arrangement style in modern cars?

  • Single / double downturned: This is generally for cars that do not prioritize exhaust noise / aesthetics and just hides the exhaust from plain sight to a certain extent. Sometimes, the cars which have these are loaded with fake exhausts in the bumper. Eg: Mercedes E Class.
  • Single shown / Dual exhausts in a single side: For cars that tend to come as sporty within a budget, this serves as a good position. This may not be very loud, gets the job done to an extent. Eg: I20 N-Line.
  • Single exhausts in either side (i) Circular: These have circular exhausts in either sides. This may look sporty, but not the fully-maxed sportiness we want. But nonetheless, this looks S-E-X-Y. Eg: 3 Series G20 Pre-LCI.
  • Single exhausts in either side (ii) Free-Flow: These have a free-flowing shape for the exhausts, but a single one placed in either side. Eg: BMW M340i.
  • Quad exhausts: Appear as the most sporty, most loud and most expressive form of the exhausts. Seen in various performance M, AMG and RS models. However, some companies are terribly doing it (Gloster, I'm looking at you!), but keep them aside. Eg: BMW M5.
  • Other: There are certain other exhaust placements done by manufacturers, such as Mini, where they place it in the center, or lotus, where triple exhausts are present.

Here's what GTO had to say on the matter:

Equal number of pipes on both sides, whether one or two (obviously!).

I really miss the BMW 535i's exhaust setup...

... on my 530d:

This is where I really appreciate Kia. They pick up even the small details, a company that is continuously improvising. This is such a smart-looking butt:

The otherwise handsome Thar looks awful with its huge silver end-can placed so prominently. So I painted mine matt-black:

On a related note, crank up the volume. This is among the best-looking & best-sounding exhausts on the planet.

Here's what BHPian vattyboy had to say on the matter:

Something like this-

I am glad that Mercedes provided 2 real exhausts and didn't do a cost-cutting back then.

Here's what BHPian shankar.balan had to say on the matter:

What about the twin exhausts in the centre? That's not an option in the poll.

But it suits my car rather well I think.

Here's what BHPian GForceEnjoyer had to say on the matter:

I'd describe myself as a "don't care about number, just need symmetry" person. Oh, and anything with more than four cylinders should have one that can sing.

2 exhausts with one on either side look great, while some oddball choices like the Lexus LFA's triple exhaust pipes also look fantastic!

Whatever goes well with the design is the best kind of exhaust setup.

At least 100 cars, including Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches and McLarens were expected to take part in the Republic Day rally.

The Mumbai police have seized at least 41 high-end luxury cars and exotics at the Jio World Drive Mall parking. These cars were supposed to take part in a rally on January 26.

According to media reports, the rally was organized by an event and social media company without getting prior clearance from the Mumbai police, at a time when there was a prohibitory order in effect from January 23 to February 6, 2024.

At least 100 cars, including Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, McLarens, BMWs, Jaguars, Audis and Mercedes were expected to take part in the rally that was supposed to flag off from Jio World Drive at 6 am from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and head to Atal Setu.

A Dream 5 car garage. God knows how many times this has been a point of discussion among friends.

BHPian JDMBOI recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Every petrolhead has a list of dream cars that they want to own, here are a few of mine.

Share yours:

  1. Maximum 5 cars.
  2. Irrespective of availability in India.
  3. Price doesn't matter.

NISMO 400R. (Nissan Skyline GTR)

A special edition of the R33 was introduced in 1995, named as Nismo 400R, with 400 and R standing for horsepower of the engine and for racing respectively. Overall development and planning were by NISMO (Nissan Motorsports International). It has a 2.8L RB26 instead of the usual 2.6L RB26. A total of 44 cars were made.

Porsche Carrera GT

The Porsche Carrera GT is a mid-engine sports car that was manufactured by German automobile manufacturer Porsche from 2004 to 2006. Carrera GT pushed technological boundaries beyond any supercar of that time. Its beautiful profile encompassed a staggeringly powerful 612PS V10 engine (one of the best sounding V10 along with LFA) that was a direct descendant of the 10-cylinder race engine developed for the Le Mans 24-hours of 2000. Built as an exclusive run of only 1,270 vehicles.

Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 (gated manual)

Lamborghini Murciélago is a sports car produced by Italian automotive manufacturer Lamborghini between 2001 and 2010. In March 2006, Lamborghini unveiled an updated version of the Murciélago at the Geneva Motor Show: the Murciélago LP 640. With displacement now increased to 6.5 litres, the engine was rated at 640 PS (471 kW; 631 hp) at 8,000 rpm. LP stands for Longitudinale Posteriore (Engine position) 640 is horsepower.

Lexus LFA

The Lexus LFA is a two-seat sports car manufactured by Lexus, the luxury car division of Toyota. The production version of the Lexus LFA features a 412 kW (560 PS; 553 hp) V10 engine developed in collaboration with Yamaha exclusive to the car and a body made from carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP). The LFA went into production in late 2010. A circuit-tuned variant debuted in 2012 and was one of the most expensive Japanese road cars ever built. Production ended in December 2012 with 500 cars produced, the final car being a Nürburgring Package model.

Ferrari Challenge Stradale

The Ferrari 360 is a two-seater, mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car manufactured by Italian automotive manufacturer Ferrari from 1999 until 2005. The Challenge Stradale was, in fact, directly derived from the 360 Modena. That said, the technicians had removed anything that wasn’t strictly functional to performance or safety, resulting in a brilliantly light and fast Berlinetta with a very definite racing set-up. To achieve that drastic weight reduction, the technicians worked on three overlapping areas: materials, construction technologies and overall optimisation of the design. In total, the Challenge Stradale is up to 110 kg lighter than the standard Modena if all the lightweight options are specified such as deleted radio, lexan (plexiglass) door windows and Alcantara fabric (instead of the leather option)

  • Engine - V8
  • Total Displacement - 3586.20 cc
  • Maximum Power - 425 hp at 8500 rpm
  • Top Speed - 300 km/h

These are not the ones who are going to break the records but going to give more smiles per mile.

Here's what GTO had to say on the matter:

Nice thread for a Sunday evening! My dream cars:

Dodge Challenger - the ultimate, timeless, fast (in a straight line), handsome and comfortable muscle car. I just can't get over the looks. To me, the desirability quotient of a well-equipped 8-cylinder Challenger is right up there with supercars from Italy:

Ferrari 488. I'm not buying all that nostalgia about the 458 and its NA V8. I'm all for turbochargers, and modern tech and find the 488 to be better looking too:

No kidding. As an Indian Jeeper, a useable Jeep with performance, AC & amenities, a convertible top and a great AT has always been a dream for me. I simply L-O-V-E this car:

Of course, I still dream about cars like the 288 GTO, Cooper S (what a perfect pocket rocket for India), M5, Defender etc.

The best part is, I am working toward owning some of the cars on this list.

Supercars: Does the average car enthusiast still take interest in them?

Some might even argue that the supercars these days don't look all that exciting. With the primary focus on going fast, cars are becoming more and more aerodynamic and again, the designs aren't exciting enough like the supercars from back in the day.

This topic may ruffle some feathers among enthusiasts, but I think there will be some who would agree with this. Do you still get as excited as you used to get when reading or watching content about supercars?

I find myself going meh every time I read about a new supercar launch that makes over 1,000 horsepower from its hybrid engine or an electric car breaking the fastest accelerating production car record. IMO, it has become a rat race to make the fastest car or fastest accelerating EV and on some level, it seems like the soul is lost. Maybe it’s also the fact that there are just so many cars being launched that are fast. You’ll easily find 50+ cars that can do the 0-100 km/h dash in under 3 seconds. Back in the day, there were just a handful high high-performance cars that we would ogle at. We would collect posters and scale models of them. Electric cars have even cracked the 2-second mark and now that’s the new benchmark that everyone's chasing.

Being an automobile engineer, I love reading about technology. And these days, I end up reading about the new engine technologies or systems more than I do about the supercars that implement them. And the latest Ferrari or Lamborghini being driven by a YouTuber in the Alps doesn’t seem as exciting as it once was. Cars themselves have become too dependent on electronic aids and that further distances the driver from the car. The less involving a car is to drive, the less interesting it will be. A bit off-topic, but recently even Max Verstappen voiced his concerns over the 2026 F1 regulations which would involve active aerodynamics that the driver can’t control. Ergo even F1 drivers want cars that feel more connected and things that they can fully control.

Some might even argue that the supercars these days don't look all that exciting. With the primary focus on going fast, cars are becoming more and more aerodynamic and again, the designs aren't exciting enough like the supercars from back in the day. The point being that cars are becoming less and less interactive and if it’s just a technological race to have the fastest car, then that would kill the interest of a lot of people. The only cars that have excited me in recent times are the ones that Gordon Murray Automotive built. The T.50 and the T.33 are powered by a naturally aspirated V12 engine have manual transmission and send power to the rear wheels only.

Do share what you think about the supercars these days. Do you still get excited about supercars? Or do you just find them to be boring?

Here's what GTO had to say on the matter:

Voted for no.

I would rather read a review of the 3rd-gen Hyundai Creta (just an example) which is important to the market, and accessible to me, rather than the new Ferrari FFFXXXXLLLeggera that is now faster by 0.1 seconds in the 0 - 100 run. I guess the review view counts (especially from India) also prove it. Take a look at which of our Official Reviews have the most views. It's not the 1-crore cars.

Does it really make a difference if a car can do 0 - 100 in 2.3 seconds or 2.5? All supercars are good. All handle well. All brake well. All are obscenely expensive and available only to the 1% club.

If I see a supercar in person, I'll of course drool over it. If I get to drive a supercar, obviously I will make the most of the drive. But Maruti launching a hybrid in the Grand Vitara, Tata's facelift of the Safari and the Innova Hycross' positioning Vs the Innova Crysta just interest me a lot more.

I don't remember the last time I read a single article on supercars. Most of my reading is on 5 - 50 lakh rupee cars, I read a little bit on the 51 - 100 lakh segment, and almost zero on the 1+ crore machines.

Here's what BHPian Dippy had to say on the matter:

The answer to the question here would be a mixed bag for me. A yes and a no. Yes because I still keep interest in every new Ferrari that breaks cover, even though they might not be smashingly beautiful as those of yore.

No because I now feel sad that even the super car is going the hybrid and electric way. Till date that's not what the definition of a super car has been for more. For me it will always be the brash V12s and V8s, V10 etc. Not to mention how the introduction of crossovers that these car makers have started building. Practical yes and they have started bringing in volumes, but they dilute the complete essence that a super car marque stands for. eg. the Urus, DBX, Purosangue etc. (yes I still do wan to drive a Purosangue)

Coming to the cars, every model from now on gets hybrid tech. Even the big bad Lamborghini V12 was not spared. The Revuelto might be an insane car but it still doesn't invoke a desire like say the Aventador, Murcielago and the likes. Ditto for Ferrari. Give me a 458 over a 296 GTB anyday. I don't want my super car to be plugged into a charging point.

Earlier I used to watch lots of new super car reviews. But now i kind of give them the pass. I still have to watch a full video of the Revuelto. I stick to watching videos of older super cars, the ones I grew up with.

So to sum it up, yes the interest has dwindled in the recent past. Except for Ferrari as mentioned above with Porsche coming in a close second. I love Lambos too ( the Aventador is by far the most wicked car I have driven till date), but the number of variants they come out over a model's production life somehow is a downer.

Here's what BHPian CrazY_dRiVeR had to say on the matter:

Could also be because these machines become a very distant and disconnected dream as the years pass by!

Imagine the crores required to purchase and maintain a 3-sec (0 to 100kmph) car - 99.9% of the enthusiast community may not be able to get there in this life. And these prices are only ever increasing!

Good thread and I totally can relate to it. For someone who used to watch every single video I could find on these high performance machines - I'm now struggling to remember when was the last time I watched one (been a few months atleast).

PS: Whereas a 3-second motorcycle can be had for less than the price of a top end Creta!

Here's what BHPian Shreyans_Jain had to say on the matter:

Gone are the V10s and V12s. V8s have also become a rare commodity. The exclusivity factor of these cars is no longer what it was. So many of these cars share components internally. Also, it’s just not the same when the likes of Lamborghini, Audi, Porsche and Bugatti are all owned by the same company.

Also, supercar level performance is no longer the monopoly of a select few. EVs have democratised performance like anything. 4.xx second for 0-100 is like nothing nowadays. ‘Budget’ Volvos are doing it for fun

Here's what BHPian greenhorn had to say on the matter:

Even in the 90's the poster on my bedroom was a Lambo diablo. None of the 90's cars evoked the raw admiration (except maybe the Jaguar xj220) the diablo could.
Anyone who says they're priced too much really doesn't get the concept of a fantasy garage

What turns me of most of them, is that most are engineered rather than styled, because of the immense aero requirements, and most of their road tests end up with reviewers talking about too many driver aids and an anaesthetized driving experience.

Having grown up looking at some sexy Italian wedges back in the day, I really cannot relate to the newer crop of super cars, but then this is something that spans a lot of other objects of desire of this age, where I feel the world's tastes have moved on from my own

Australia: Special license required to drive high-powered vehicles

Owners of UHPVs will have to keep safety features like ABS, traction control, and stability control switched on at all times

According to media reports, supercar owners in South Australia will soon need to earn a special licence to drive their Ultra High-Powered Vehicles (UHPV). The Australian jurisdiction is said to have announced the new licencing scheme last week, while also stating that stricter penalties would be imposed for dangerous driving.

The proposal to introduce a special license was announced last year, with the rule now set to be implemented from December 1, 2024. As per the new rule, supercar owners will be required to earn a "U License" to drive their UHPV.

Reports suggest that 200 models come under the UHPV categorisation. According to the government, any vehicle with a gross weight of less than 4,500 kg and a power-to-weight ratio of more than 370 BHP per tonne will be considered a UHPV. However, buses and motorcycles are exempt from this rule. As an example, a Lamborghini Huracan has a power-to-weight ratio of 391 BHP/tonne, requiring its owners to have a U License to drive it. However, a BMW M3 owner doesn't need the special license as its power-to-weight ratio is 298 BHP/tonne.

Drivers applying for a U License will have to complete an online training course, currently still in development. The course is said to ensure drivers of UHPVs are aware of the risks while handling such vehicles. In addition, owners of UHPVs will have to keep safety features like ABS, traction control, and stability control switched on at all times while on public roads. Those who don't will face severe fines of up to AUD $5,000.

South Australia attorney-general Kyam Maher stated, “These reforms will ensure people who drive ultra high-powered vehicles take greater responsibility for their actions while making sure that authorities have the power to prosecute those who flout our road laws and put others’ lives at risk.”
