Suggestions for a Good ICE Installer In TVM

currently I've been quoted 700 for the rear plank and 200~300 for installation ? what do you think ?

I think Car Palace is Ok, but their attitude is bad. But unfortunately there is no other option in Trivandrum. Stay away from Motor plaza they are more interested in selling crap brands.

700 is decent for the MDF plank. but it again depends upon the thickness and brand of the board.

200-300 for installation is fine too. just supervise them. get a bunch of cable ties too if they don't haved them.

DIY is the way to go.
Afterall you can always go to an installer if things dont go well (unless you seriously damage body parts / equipment).
For MDF plank, you may also contact Mr. Vasudevan of M/s Roopesh Ind. a small shop in Vadayakkavu (or Vadayakkadu?) near Kannamoola who makes it (i think specialises in MDF planks / speaker / woofer enclosures).

THanks FOr the replies guys. Today finally escaped from the office at 4 and went to car world. First off the kid (yes, its a young man who seems to be in his late teens) who's installing. First of all he opens the bay that houses the HU and i see him reaching for a wire stripper, and i ask him why. He says it's to connect the HU. (thanks to me initially planning to install the HU myself, I'm aware of a thing known as a wiring harness ) I go and ask the shop owner , and he says yes, there is such a thing, but they dont have it in stock. He says it would take time/money. I say no problemo.

He goes off to hunt for one. Half an hour later , he calls saying he's managed to get one , but cost @ 350. I say fine.

in the meantime , the front speakers get installed, but the guy is following a very convention for the speakers. He connects the red wire ( +ve right ?) to the negative terminal of the speaker , and to the non red end of the wire. Either way, He says that it will work out , and is adamant about it. I say fine- i can always remove and rewire them myself. After all, as long as he is consistent about the convention, i dont mind.

Then he starts to make markings in my rear tray, and i tell him that i need to get one done in MDF. Fine - he goes and fetches a 1/2 inch thick MDF sheet. I'm like no way- So I call the shop owner ( who is on his way back from sourcing the wiring harness) and ask him about the rear tray in 3/4 inch. he says that will cost about 750 ( cheap) to 850( better). and it will have to be custom made and take time. Again, i say no issues, and an order is placed. Then i remember that they cover it with some sort of fuzzy cloth like thing which gets dusty/dirty soon. I ask for a vinyl coating (grey to go with the grey interiors ) - that will be a bit more extra.

Finally i get the fronts installed. the tweeters are still dangling - haven't decided where to place them yet. The rears still arent installed. Waiting for the plank.

before you install the tweeters gently use sticky tape (I just take regualr 3M scotch tape and fold into a circle and use this) to try various locations.

With this way of approach, I think you will make much difference in the quality of your install. Keep it up!
Now, were'nt you carrying a gadget that makes click click sound when pressed on a certain button on it?? I think that gadget would be carried next time you sneak out from the office!

The plank will take some time since whoever has been subcontracted the work of making it doesnt use vinyl any more. says it heats up in the sun. I have underground parking , it shouldnt matter , but still no luck. asked him to try to use vinyl as far as possible , else rexin- whatever they use to make the seat covers. I dont want the carpeting stuck to my rear tray.


Ok, the good part. Listening impressions so far. When i switched it on, i was heartbroken. The sound was very light, I was pretty sure the kid had screwed up the phase somewhere. But he was adamant , and the center image was there. so left it at that. The highs and vocals were coming around nicely, so was happy with that. over a few hours , they have started to sing quite nicely Guess the babies needed some breaking in. Well, bass is adequate ( cant expect wonders from 5 inchers ) and i've worked out the tweeter placement.

1) Now another issue. at higher volumes , the door panels join in with the music, and it is adding a plastic coloration to the sound , Which I'm finding a bit annoying. Is there anything i can do ?

something to go in between the mid bass driver and the plastic door panel- some rubber/foam perhaps - like I've seen with non automobile speaker drivers? Will that help ?

Will anything improve if i add some glass wool to the cavity behind?

2) should i keep using the stock speaker grille from the indica or use the one that came with the speakers ( using the stock one now since it looks better ) , but can switch in the interest of better SQ.

well, he said it would cost about 200, but he didnt have it then. we said he'd check around a few other shops. at one point he called and said it was available , but at 350. He said it would cost 2x to source from EKM. Anyway, i was a bit impatient and went with them.

Bass is ok now and seems to be getting better. The big issue is to silence the door panels
( yup - tweaked the tone controls a bit. bass at +3 and treble at -1 now ). the manual is on CD. have to take the printout and check out the advanced setup

With just the fronts- the rears haven't been installed yet.

So damping it is then. Unfortunately it is beyond what can be done around here. will have to wait till dad approves a trip to ekm :(

Nobody will do a damping job alone in a good quality manner I think.
You better work out some backup DIY options too in case....

Whatever it is, you need to damp the front doors as better as possible. Otherwise, they'll always be part of your music.

redfire too wanted damping and I suggested Noise Kill. Maybe GreenHorn and redfire can buy in bulk and fix rattling in their Swift ,Indica . DIY
