Red face Volvo Launches B9R Coach : 9400 6x2

One of my friends got this invite and unfortunately he could not make it. So it's not too far where bus operators will buy B9R's and attract more customers...

Cheers,

Wonder what the interiors would look like, if they are going to be any different from the B7Rs.

Yes, I read somewhere it is indeed a 9 litre engine. Can't imagine to power and torque, must be huge.

Whoa!! that is some engine are you sure about torque figure??
i'll be damned if that is correct, can't wait to take ride on mum-pune expressway. I hope they have speed limiters within 100kmph range but again that will be total injustice to this mammoth engine

I just checked B9R specs, the D9B380 motor indeed has 1740Nm torque starting @ 1200rpm. Drivers will have real privilege driving this monster

It sure is! Check http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ml#post1015808 (Volvo B7R reviews?)

With a 9-litre rear engine and 6x2 configuration, Volvo 9400 6x2 is developed to provide passengers with an even higher level of comfort and provide bus operators with a tool to achieve even better transport economy through higher occupancy levels and better fuel consumption per passenger km.

Now for some CBA (Cost Benefit Analysis).

Volvo B7R: Cost: 75l, Seats: 45
Mercedes Sutlej O 500 R: Cost: 80l, Seats:? Read that it looks smaller than the B7R
Volvo B9R: Cost: 85l, Seats: 53

So leaving aside the Merc, the B9R costs 13.33% more but has a revenue generating (seats) capacity of 17.18% more! And I bet it would be more efficient too (litres per passenger per km)!

All you would need is good, straight roads that can make use of the long wheelbase. And GQ is almost ready in most places.

Makes good sense for the operator, and they may be able to charge a slight premium over B7R!

I sincerely hope this new bus is comfortable compared to the B7R.
I know a lot of you love / worship the B7R for its comfort but I have never felt comfortable in it.

That's because seating configuration could be customized. I have seen some B7Rs which has one more row of seats squeezed in, leaving reduced leg room for passenger.

So B9R could be more profitable for the operator. For end user, it all depends on how many seats are fitted. At the same time, having twin rear axles could reduce some choppiness at the rear.

I have also never felt very comfortable with any 2+2 seating configuration. I do not know if there are any Volvos configured with 2+1 (Executive) seating arrangement, but in the other buses, I find the 2+1 to be the best.

Good point : the twin axles mean that instead of moving up and down once for the height of a speedbreaker, we will be moving up and down twice for half the height of the speedbreaker, which is better.

The pic below may illustrate this better, I hope :
