Was in great shape till the late 50s I think, after which he went for a Standard Herald, Which we had till 1998. And it drove well till we gave it away.
That is a lovely picture, are there any more? What about the Herald? Do share some pictures if available.

Thanks karlosdeville!
I should have a snap of the herald. My dad had it restored and we used to "take it our for a walk" once or twice a week to keep the battery juiced up! [It was one of those 2 door versions requiring a skilled gymnastic procedure to get in / extricate oneself from the rear seat]

- will surely post snaps - searching.... searching...

Got It!

Could be a Triumph? the logo isnt too clear though. BTW, this pjhoto somehow doesnt seem to be from India. There's no front numberplate for one thing.

Your Herald sure looks nice! (I have a similar one BTW.)

It would've definitely been from the mid 60s though as the Herald came only in 1960-61.
The rims would've been better in the original off-white though, would've made it look more authentic.

'wish you still had it in your family! 'hope it still survives.

So was this the only car in your family when you sold it?
And what colour was it before it was done up?

Thanks Stanher! Do we have snaps of your Herald online?
... and thanks for the info on the model. I guess that must be when my Grand-pop bought this one.
The car was a deep Green when we got it.

Yeah - this was the only old car we had. We had started using another one for our daily needs.

Yes, of course! If you meant on tbhp, there's an entire thread on her in fact:

Ah so that explains the red upholstery! Although quite unusual for people in India to replace a 4-door car with a 2-door one. 'guess your grandpa had really taken to the Herald when it was introduced!

So until you got the other car, this was your daily driver? And yes I agree 2-door can be quite a challenge if you have a large family! However, my car's late ex-owner (who bought it new in 1964) had bought the car when he already had 4 children, the 5th one was born a year later!

Had a look at the thread.... very interesting! And the finished product sure set new "Standards"

Well... actually ever since our Herald was given to us by my Grand-pop this car was always the 2nd car - we basically did not want to sell it, that's the reason we asked him to pass it on when he went for a new car.

Re: Waking up a 1967 Mercedes Benz 200 - Videos added.

Mr. Ravi was kind enough to share this picture from his family album. Posting this on behalf of Mr. Ravi and Kadam. I shall leave it to Mr. Ravi to share the history behind this photo.

Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-scansmall.jpg

There are some very interesting cars in the pic. Here's a hi-res zoom of the cars.

Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-zoom.jpg

I'm experiencing some difficulty in identifying all the cars.

Extreme Left :

1. Chrysler Windsor or New Yorker
2. Ambassador Mark 1

Behind the gentleman and lady :

3. Unidentified car. Looks very interesting!
4. Unidentified car. Probably a Beetle or Morris Minor?

Centre :

5. Ambassador Mark 1 that belonged to Mr. Ravi's family
6. Unknown car behind the Amby Mark 1
7. Fiat 1100D / Super Select?

Behind the Beetle in the foreground :

8. Possibly a Vauxhall Velox or a 1950s Hillman Minx?
9. Unknown car. Looks interesting!
10. Foreground : A 1958-61 Delux Ragtop Beetle with some interesting badges and a damaged fender.

Argyll, nice of you to identify the car as a Datsun. You are certainly right. There was also a rear shot of the car against the tree. This was probably one of the first Japanese cars in India, as early as around 1960.
The album contained photos of a Japanese family, their office, a visit to a Shivaji monument. The road on which the accident took place suits the setting of rural Maharashtra in those times. Hope the family was not involved in that accident, or came out safe. There is also a photo of their office door.
Strange is that there are also photos of an East German trading agency in the same album.

Cheers harit

Kasli you missed the Plymouth Savoy?/Dodge Kingsway peeping from the rear of the Horizontally parked Ambi. And the one next to the Hillman is a Chevy Deluxe.

I feel that it is perhaps the next model, a Superselect?

Here is a Prefect taxi, in Mumbai, in a bungalow which appears to be a tad rundown. Those were nice times, spacious and no one staying above or below you.

Cheers harit
