The erstwhile Hyderabad State had many firsts to its credit as far as development and planning were concerned. The state had its own rail, road and air services to cater to the needs of its population. Here are some pictures of the Nizam State Railway buses which ran under a department called RTD (Road Transport Department.

I remember coming across the Tank Bund and Rly. Station pics. before- the station was mentioned as not Sec'bad but Nampally.

Also no. 7 & 8 seem to be of the same bus, I guess its in Vijaywada bus station now. I had seen it in a less cared for state a few years ago.

Here's a small ex-NSR-RTD bus, an Albion if I'm not mistaken, put up on display (albeit open to the elements, pollution etc.) at the APSRTC head office at RTC-X-roads.

At our request Shri Sanjeev Kohli, son of famed maestro, the late Madan Mohan has posted a picture of his beloved dad with his MG.

The link is here to Madanji's facebook page:

In fact, Madanji also owned a Studebaker which we had earlier discussed.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Mohammed Rafi Sahab at the wheel of his LHD import. Could it be a Chevrolet Impala ?
This is the front side of the jacket of one of his LP records. The flip side of the jacket is also uploaded for Rafi Sahab's fans who may be inquisitive as to which songs appear in this LP record?

Mohammed Rafi Sahab with some cars of his, right from his early days:

Could this be an Morris 8 or a Austin 8 ? The rear window matches with that of the Morris 8 though !

This picture is also featured on one of his LP records

This appears to be an Austin Somerset

Nice pictures.
1st is an Austin or Morris, doesn't really matter.
2nd looks like a Chevy 58, 59 or 60, going by the quarter glass windoe.
3rd is an Audi, probably a 100. Very few of these cars came to India, there was a yellow one and a red with black top.
4th picture I think I had also put up this picture somewhere before.

Cheers harit

My guess is that this must be from Rajasthan/North Gujrat, and some royal palace. All know who was so fond of Lanchesters over there, awesome car. Any more pics from there?

Cheers harit

Re: Nostalgic automotive

Can anyone guess what the anchored stone (with semi circular top & hole drilled through) was used for?

Re: Nostalgic automotive

"anchored stone (with semi circular top & hole drilled through)"

- Securing Horses?
- Chaining the wheel of a car to ensure it is not gone in 60 seconds?
