Harit,
For me, the Bombay registrations were:
no letters, BOM, Z, Y, X, W, T, N, K
so, as you say, K nnnn would have been about 1938 to 1939.
However, the very first Karachi registrations were K nnnn which was then followed by KA and then KAR.
I have no idea of the date of this car or, sadly what years K ran from and to but would guess KA started in about 1922 or so. A photo of Ka 1300 exists from 1924.
Can this be a Karachi car?

KartikeyaL,
Your photo of X 6054 is, I am certain, Bombay pre 1930.
Ceylon (Sri Lanka) used X nnnn from 1928 to 1936 followed by Z nnnn from 1936 to 1940.

Cheers
Cedric

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

We see a battered 47/48 Buick shot in 1988 in Mumbai here

I wonder if it could possibly be the same car we saw here

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Hi,

Recently my wife and i visited the tea museum in Munnar which had on display a lot of lovely old things including some pictures. I was presumed crazy for the amount of time i spent clicking photographs of photographs . Here they are. I remember seeing the picture of the AJS motorcycle earlier, possibly on the forum (?) . Hope i am not repeating all in the case they do exist.

regards,

Srinand.

Lovely pictures. Interesting race line up with bikes, I can pinpoint a ford A, a dodge early, a chevrolet, a bus could be also chevy and if you magnify closely and for all RR fans a Silver Ghost with the ever special conical disc wheel covers- the last car. The front fender with the horses looks like a Silver Ghost. While two cars on the side of the road, the car in black looks like an AC while the last car shot looks like Ford V8 sedan. Thanks for sharing and please do inform which place this in Munnar.

Cheers

Hi Mr.Kasli,

Thank you very much for identifying all of them. This is the Kannan Devan tea museum in Munnar. It is quite lovely and has on display a lot of antiques and items from the days of the British planters. More info here; http://www.kdhptea.com/TeaMuseum.html

regards,

Srinand.

I stand corrected on the gymkhana race snap. The first car looks English and with the placements of the light, there is a dosage brothers next to that a Chevy bus, then again a 1925/26 chevrolet then the RR . Can we have a high res snap !

Cheers

It is indeed fantastic if the race is what it looks like - bikes (with and without side cars) competing with cars (from what could be a little Austin to a Silver Ghost), and even light busses all competing!

The silver ghost - CD 871 or 571
The second car is much clearer CD 64

Hi,

Just manage to unearth some more pics from our travels through Rajasthan, the first three were from the heritage hotel we stayed in Jodhpur and the latter two from an antique dealers store in Udaipur.

There is a good posibility that the 4th photo is from Deogarh. They have a very similar photo, if this is not the same.

Cheers harit
