Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Couple of pictures from the Facebook page of Bangalore bygone days.

The description as posted:
"Here is a photograph of my grandfather's fuel station as it stood on Richmond Road in the early 1950s. I figured today that the small 'office' structure still exists. Managed to grab a couple of pictures this morning and have juxtaposed them with the older photograph. The outlet stood a couple of buildings down the road from where the mosque is presently located on Richmond Road. I see that there is an auto garage now that functions around this building. The fuel station was originally set up on MG Road, next to Lakeview in the mid 1930s and moved to the Richmond Road location around 1950"

The Ambassador.
After a little searching, found a clear picture of the Ambassador we had at home from 1963 to 2003.

Sometime in the 70s, my uncle, on his way to Kumara Park while returning from a "amico fine arts programme", happened to ram a hand drawn cart "opposite St. Joseph's Indian College, behind Kanteerava Stadium".

Here's a pic of the damaged car.

Ps- Stanher bhai, in reply to your earlier question, my uncle tells me the car was "Jet Black".

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

An unknown stunner has come my way in the form of a photo.
Never seen this car before. Any guesses what could it be? It is in India for sure.

Happy guessing and Cheers, harit

P.S. I really don't know what it is.

It should be a 1949-'50 ish SIMCA 8 Sport cabriolet. Based on the FIAT 1100?

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

My grandfather with my dad and his brothers at the family bungalow in Khadki, Pune. The car, a Pontiac I believe, was purchased from the American embassy. It was eventually scrapped after my grandfather stopped driving.

Probably a Chrysler product (Dodge or Plymouth?) of the late 1930s. I'm guessing the bungalow still stands. Most of Kirkee still looks the same, decades later.

Thanks, Karlosdeville. I am told that the bungalow was acquired by the Indian army for a rubber factory.

Wow! Dunno whether I am more excited by the cars or the bungalow in Khadki (Kirkee for the anglicised, and official ). So many childhood memories living in such army bungalows in Khadki, and later while visiting home from Khadakvasla!

Well, Swastik Rubber had their premises near Khadki railway station, maybe still do (if one carried on straight, parallel to the rail line at the fork where one road turned towards MH Khadki Paraplegic Centre/Poona Univ back gate, the one straight to Spicer College, and this on the right)...could there be a connection?
