Re: Barn find – 1959 Willys CJ3B

Been following this thread very closely. Hats off to your love for Jeep!!

Any updates on the restoration? Did you finalize the color scheme? Have you been able to procure all the parts?

Thanks for appreciation.
Vehicle is 'On Test' for 500-600 kms. Color is yet to be finalized. You can suggest your color choice as well.
Got hold of almost 85% parts required. Need few tit bits and cosmetic parts etc.
As of now concentrating on mechanical aspect of it. Once everything is sorted out, then we will concentrate on cosmetic, paints, upholstery etc...

Hi Shubendra,

It's members like you who inspire newbies like me. I really want to take up a restoration project and am waiting to gather the funds needed for it.

My humble opinion on the color is this blue shade that was posted earlier. Its something unique and rarely found among jeeps I've seen.

The other option is Coral Rust, which is also a beautiful color.

Dear HighwayofLife,
Appreciation keeps us (people who work on jeeps as a hobby) going. Dont be in hurry while buying a jeep, there is a high probability of being cheated.
All the best !
Not decided about color yet.

As of now Jeep work is stalled as my mechanic who was working on it is not well from last 4 months and we dont want anyone else to fiddle with our jeep.
after we used it for few hundred kilometers, we found that, there are few mechanical tweaking required and i am not in hurry and am adamant to sort all mechanical niggles before we send our jeep for painting
We are contemplating to send it to Bhopal (450 kms from my town) for paint and finishing touch.

Lets see how it works out.

Re: Barn find – 1959 Willys CJ3B

Andy Ji,
it all depends on how lucky you are, I have bought few LHDs (all dumped somewhere) in last 10 years ranged from as low as 30K to 110K.
In fact i sold my working Willys (restored an year back) LHD, petrol, 4x4 with NDMS tyres for 60K.
lets see what you get in treasure hunt, interested in original body, chassis of GPW (rest all is modified)?

I recommend, you be given a sound warning for this irreversible sin.
Whom did you sell this beauty to? Is that guy willing to sell again? Please find out. I am serious

I did this sin when i was in my graduation (2003-2004), and similar to other youngsters wanted to buy a hardtop Gypsy with AC, music system

This Jeep was later on butchered to RHD, 2WD, International engine, Gypsy rims, broad tyres.....

BTW, used my Willys for 2 years with Kerosene (50% kerosene, 50% petrol + small dose of engine oil), it never skipped a beat, never heated, never misfired... and this tuning was done by father of mechanic who is working on current Willys. And i am not exaggerating, but i used to get 8 in city and 9/9.5 in highway (i cross checked it numerous times). My hostel mates used to bring few liters of petrol/Kerosene for late night joyrides.
so many memories :(
