80% of all land rovers made are still on the road..
the rest of them made it home..

i guess another thread should be started if land rovers are to be discusssed...

LRs were a North American joke, the informed people did not buy them. They looked good and ran bad. Uninformed people bought them for their looks. The fact that they have enjoyed some "record sales" recently is explained by the fact that their sales have been way down for many years. 'Tis you, sir, who know not whereof you speak. Use your head. Would they sell a money maker? Wake up and smell the motor oil, my friend.
How dogmatic can you get?!

Just because soemthing is making money does NOT IMPLY it cannot be sold. Stop offering lame/cliched reasons for your FABRICATIONS

And Ford sold LR in 2008, how does quality issues in 80's and 90's come into factor now. I am a Analyst and have read quite a bit on Ford's current financial situation and business outlook, and in light of that your statments are complete fabrication

And when did I SAY LR does not have quality issues?

Indica, Safari have so many quality issues, but they still sell and sell in GOOD numbers! I am sure you would find more jokes about Safari's reliability than LR's but just look at its sales!

Coming back to the point FORD did not sell LR due to quality issues . That is what i said and that is what i stand by. And that is no justification for Mahindra being better than LR or anything of that sort that you believe or are trying to prove!

Stop smelling motor oil and get some fresh sir.

Mahindra Rakshaks found defective

Here's a news report from today's Tribune according to which problems have been found in 200 Mahindra bulletproof jeeps supplied to Army, resulting in suspension of further orders. Problems reported:
  1. Excessive weight
  2. Inadequate power (in relation to weight)
  3. Problems in steep climbs
  4. Poor ground clearance
  5. Poor turning radius causing difficulty while negotiating turns
The jeeps were ordered in spite of VRDE's adverse report during trials.

The report:

First CJ500D - 1983 CJ500D4WD aka "Forester"

This JEEP was picked up by a friend of mine in Chennai, he rebuilt it and sold it for a CJ3B.

The first 5 pics are the day after the JEEP was bought (17-07-2005)

It was the only JEEP which could successfully pull out 2 CLASSICs which had stalled in the water, tow start them on the sand....and finally had to tow one of the CLASSICs all the way back to Chennai i.e 40Kms.

Enjoy the pics

Regards,

Arka

Guys, we have long digressed MAJOR-ly from the original topic of this thread. Let us at least not bring in more topics into this discussion

@Elito, let's see what Dan is saying, rather than jumping to a conclusion so fast. How do you say/ know he's 'fabricating' what he has said ?

Basically, Ford has not been successful in managing it's current product portfolio (incl J-LR). And reverting to it's more recent portfolio could be the way that Ford has chosen to re-work things for itself, before they move ahead to grow inorganically.

It is also possible that issues with J-LR were affecting Ford's performance with it's other products - but the customer is not so naive in believing that issues with J-LR products will adversely affect Ford products.

While you analyze the information that's out in the open, and give us all insights that we cannot see - do we really know why Ford sold J-LR ?

Let's not forget that FORD itself once (quite jokingly) stood for Fix Or Repair Daily.

Arka.. some would shrug in disgust looking at that pile of iron and rust.

But some of us loved the sight of it. Please do share more about this jeep and its condition now. restored? on sale?

Pretty damned dogmatic, thank you very much.

You better read the other posts about LR as well. I had a small fleet of Ford light trucks during that time frame in North America. I could not get them in for service because so much time was spent by the dealers fixing LRs. The service managers, one a personal friend of mine, used to complain to me about it. It's a fact, Jack. Sorry if it upsets you.

Suggest you make your next post the last word on this subject. This is not a LR thread.

Elito

Exatcly! But comparing with a LR is unjustified, hence the cross-posting.
But wat the hell, we are learning in the process.!

Unless the Classics had a driver / mechanical error, I dont see why that should have happened.

GTO, welcome to offroad, down south. It need not be a driver / mechanical error. There are times when some vehicles make it and the others dont.

I've seen lesser powered vehicles doing an obstacle the first attempt than the others.

Its all luck eh?

Luck, yes!
Skill of the driver also required for tackling a situation, no??
It would be a driver/ mechanical error. Otherwise, it is difficult to digest that that both the Classics would be so unlucky!

Hello svsantosh,

Sorry but i have not being able to get my hands on a TD Major yet. I am a bit hesitant to use my friend's Major on the sort of terrain i could take her. The dealer has promised me a drive this weekend. Hopefully he can make it.

Apologies again, but i will try my best to get a proper onroad, offroad TD done.
