Hi,
In this condition (ie all stripped down) is the best time to solve your water under the dash problems - if you have -that is!

As said - 235 are too wide!
to me the best are 205! Less strain on the steering/ rack& pinion, tie rod knuckles etc!
Height marginally reduces, hence better stability/body roll.

1. I have used Pirelli Scorpion AT 215/75 R15 and they are good

2. I have used Michelin LTX-AT 235/75 R15 and they are OK.

Have not experienced Geolanders but the take is that BF-Goodrich is great !

3. The second issue is that while your gypsy is stripped down, you can seal the firewall for any water leakages etc!

Now i am being completely naive, What is firewall??. Is it the metal wall that separates engine and the cabin?

Amar

Basically yes its the area between engine bay and cabin (behind dash). Protects you from the heat (and fires) in the engine area. Remember to get some insulating heatlon type material installed as well to cut down on noise and heat getting into the cabin area.

Today I had a conversation with the mechanic and i told him this issue(water coming under dash) with the Gypsy's. He said he will fix all the vents before putting the engine. However, Gypsy engine is very quiet so there is no sound issue's but i will ask if we can put some insulation material for AC to be more effective.
Should the insulation material be on the cabin side or the engine side??

Today i went for some shopping for my Gypsy , the list of items bought are specifically for leh trip:

1) Tire Repair Kit.
2) Radiator sealant
3) 44 piece tool kit(Emergency repair kit).
4) Cables to tie lugguage.

Don't forget a good quality tow rope as well, always been dubious about the ones sold in our local town in India. Might be the case you can buy better quality rated tow rope in bigger cities like LDH.

Try a local motor spares shop or ebay. Duck Pipe & Hose Repair Tape is a common one found in shops in the UK. It may be distributed in North America as well.

If you can't find it then there are alternatives on ebay :

A Maharadja hockey stick with carbon fibre shaft makes a decent security device as do those metal baseball bat type steering wheel locks (although the locks themselves are pretty poor).

How much is the Airman tyre inflator? Is it available easily in the country? What make?

Amar,

Do not go for 275. Max is adviced for 235 on alloys. Beyond that you will find the steering very hard and tyre will be touching the springs and body. Turning radius reduces drastically. Especially for ladakh, you need less than 235 size where curves are very sharp and narrow.
