Dose that kind of hand brake really work ? :D

Anyways throw that away .( & get some more clearence) I think the later type that fits into the rear wheels will be usefull ( am I correct Guruji ? )

Also fit original type bolts to the skid plate ( pic provided ) thease have smooth heads .

Sudarshan, please check my prev post, can you throw some inputs about a brake lock/line lock, did any indian vehicle (commercial) come with it?

And yes, i will get the bolt as per spec, never got serious to search for it..!!

I am nearly decided to discard the hand brake (which works perfectly even now :( ), just need to be sure the linelock is a easy thing to get in India.

Santosh before doing any thing first replace this drain Bolts, its not concealed type in your jeep, i don't know this is a OE are some one replaced it.

This Brake lock has kept me thinking , I have never seen this before .

But one thing for sure experimenting with Brakes should be done very cautiously ,

Quality of this product must be re assured before any application .

Please tell more about this ( name, manufacturer etc )

This looks very interesting to me I really have few Ideas which can be made possible with this ( its a normal DIY thing :D)

[quote=svsantosh;2187226]You statement has the answer in itself :) the dampers/shocks are extended out 2 inches and need urgent replacement to longer ones. Arka has spoken about Tempo Traveller's OR Bolero's rear shocks are possible replacement, Boleros recommended over TT's. I am yet to find time and money to replace the current with gujri ones...

See pics, result of today morning recce of a very nice and new hosur trail.

Attachment 473289

the hand brake drum was shredded over a rock, we picked up metal pieces after clearing the obstacle..!!

Attachment 473290

thankfully the skid plate took most of the brunt

Hi Santosh,

You are using a MM550XD Skid Plate. Please angle the trailing edge of the skid-plate down, to prevent it from fouling the Hand Brake.

Please follow Sudarshan JEE's suggestion wrt skid-plate bolts.

Arkajee , this skid plate was on my 540 too ,the main disadvantage is it ploughs back when you try to reverse to get yourself free . ( particularly when bellied ) I had removed it ( & in mean time I got Landy which has 12+ inches of clearence bellow GB crossmember ,unlike Jeeps. so never fitted it again as I used the Jeep less )

now how mod it any sugestions ?

Hi Sudarshan JEE,

My experience was a little different with the original CJ3B Style Skid Plate.

Once stuck, if you move forward, the skid plate trailing edge angles up and hits the Hand brake Drum, but while reversing the skid plate pivots on the trailing edge, and curls below the cross-member.

Mod-- make it thicker 6-8mm and reduce the no. of holes. (Keep one for the T-Case drain Nut)

Arka

@ Arka JEE

I think the solution for Santosh will be ( IMHO )

1) remove the old styled park brake & arrange for it on rear wheels

2) retain the plate thats with him now ( remove dents ) & put original type bolts as you have confirmed

This will
1) buy him some more clearence underneath

2) wont be spending on a new plate

What do you think ?

Sudarshan JEE,

I'm not at all offended, if that is the Indian term for a "modified" vehicle, I'm ready to accept it, even if the implication are that of a Hack Job.

Let proceed.

Arka

I am assuming the newer ones are a direct fit into the existing hole spec? I shall get a couple if yes.

Hi Santosh,

Take the older one and check the thread there maybe a difference, then buy it.

The Older Type is non-Magnetic and the Newer Drain Plug is Magnetic to collect metal filing in the differential.

If you want to increase the oil capacity of the differential, you can even change the differential cover.

Arka

Ok Arka i dont know its OE, Still he can buy Flush mounting Allen key type, i have the same in my jeep, Arka Allen key is not a issue, its 12 mm Square, any Bit Rod are Bit extender will do the Job, we have a bad experience with this Drain bolt, once in Pearl valley, Mr.Tirumal reddy hit a boulder and drain bolt came out from the thread, finally we towed that jeep to highway.
