Aiyooo, didnt mean a actual rally type stuff and all. Just thought why not have two seatbelts over the left and right shoulder? It does amount to a 6-pointer right? Use the 'over-left' shoulder belt only in trails/tough obstacles for added protection :)

Enna sir, Aiyoo edhke :uncontrol.. Actually you are right, for obstacles its the best, but get your self a nice bucket seat.
Just to give you an idea 4 pointer belt (certified & valid) costs nearly 30,000/- a pair ;)

BTW homin' should approve the budget also..he he.. you have a nice machine mate..

^ Thx twinn, plan still to be executed.

Update - Starter motor and alternator opened up for the 1st time in 2 years. Obviously all the water fording had left its mark!! Lots of muck and dust, got it petrol cleaned. Bendix gone for toss, alternator 'regulator' too changed, my electrician says for any old vehicle, get these 2 components opened up and overhauled once a year. Parts bill is around 1200, awaiting completion for total electricians bill...

What diameter pipes are those for the roll cage Santosh? 2" or 2.5"? and 12 gauge/2.5mm?

Gogi - Pipes are Seam'd, 2 inch, 2MM thick (some ISI marked pipe), for your ref - a 20feet length weighs 17~ Kilos (you will get much heavier in seamless 4MM 2" pipe, around double in theory)

So seamed pipe is good enough? Why is everyone harping on seamless pipes then?

^ Well, technically seamless would offer more strength and no low quality, less know brands make it (May be SAIL and TISCO makes them) but mine was a complete DIY project on a super tight budget. May be the cheapest 6PRC ever at less than 5K INR... IIRC 4x4army (David?) from mumbai got a beautiful seamless imported pipe RC, but costed a BOMB... its ur call totally, I feel safe within my 5K roll cage.

What is the update, where is your jeep? Aren't you going to Pune?

Alternator and Starter motor in place, jeep started and all OK, need some cosmetic finishing like seat covers and soft top, GB Plastic shield I got was for some other jeep, not fitting on my cj340!! Damn...

PS - withdrew from north trip due to personal issues.

SVS, North trip means AKC / EXAMM or some other outing?

Spike

Spikey - me and Dr.Madhu cancelled our AKC/Examm trips due to individual personal commitments...

Headlights done, so all electrical work over. Small challenge was with battery cutoff switch mounted on dash next to ignition switch, so I can use a long key chain with 2 rings, and take away both the regular key and the battery cutoff key whenever needed.

Winch shall go in tomm hopefully.

Jeep back home - all in place, well just a few niggles to be sorted out.

1) front right brake locking up - needs to be adjusted a bit.
2) Headlights needs re-focusing
3) Few other little electrical wires to be tucked in

Tomm morning should see a looong test drive... May be a few pics too :)

Well, it is a jeep thing...!!

Whole day was spent in diagnosing 1 issue and after that got resolved - a new one cropped up.

A few weeks before the planned Rebuild I was experiencing a slight pull to the right under braking. I blamed it on wheel alignment and postponed it till yesterday. Got the alignment checked and the issue blew out of Proportion!!

MASSIVE pull to the right under moderate to heavy braking. Almost the left side of the jeep would crumple under its own weight!! Like a implosion, while the right rear would almost throw the jeep up in air!!

Issue was 1st diagnosed to a bust wheel brake cylinder kit and got replaced. Still issue remained!! (Removal refitting hub/drum once)

Still persisted.

Swapped front brake shoes in a X pattern to even out un-even wear. (Rem-refit twice) - still!!

After draining out possible bubbles in braking system - still!! DAMN, by now I had lost hope and was ready for a new brake set - ALL.

Then the chief saw me and my trusted shop no.2 boy was struggling - pitched in with a idea that finally solved the issue.

Swap just the drums from left-right - it did the trick, now it nearly does a stoppie..!!

Then on the way back home (with no.3 following in my nano) - jeep went over a series of undulations on the GQ (thx to heavy trucks) and after a series the front wheels picked up the deadly RESONANCE !!! Death wobble!!

After reaching home, gave the #3 a mouthful, could not do much in dark, hope it is one of the 3... if anything else is a possibility, please advise...

1) Loose steering box
2) Knuckle kit loose (needs removal of a shim and re tightening
3) Something else is loose -- when I dropped the front wheels into a rut on the road, i dont hear the regular sounds - it is as if there is a KATAK - a THUD, some is not connected correctly and is very loose..!! I Suspect the U-Clamps or shackles after the recent re-cambering.

Lets see whats the cause of it!!

At last Jeep is road worthy!!

Check the knuckle kit bolts. If it is loose, it can wobble. People normally overlook that aspect. This can possibly be followed by checking all the linkages and the king pin assembly and the steering box mounting. Chances of a vertical play in the steering rod creating a wobble is remote.

The above post helped me a lot - 190Rs new Knuckle kit solved the entire death wobble issue. Of course the U-clamp base plates were a teeny bit loose too.

As for the brake drags to right - it was a case of hardened brake shoes on the right side!! Got new RANE brake pads 250rs, riveting in place 50Rs, now brake is Ok.

RANE brake liners I guess. How good are those? In future as far as possible, always try and source KBX Bosch / Brakes India Limited (BIL) service parts. These are among the most preferred Brake components specially for M&M range of vehicles.
