Long time restoration is not my Way !!, since trammway desperately needed the vehicle to be shifted to Coimby from Chennai....so it has been planned accordingly !!
Any way on the eve of " Ganesh Chathurthi ", FJ 40 's side badges was removed & moved to safe custody after plenty of spraying & teeth biting anti- clock wise torques to the heavily rusted monogram screws!! ( think trammway is happy now !!)

Ahh.. thats a good news. As this particular monogram comes only on the aged FJ40s and no avail in these day. I was very much concerned about the particular monograms.

Thanks a ton for you to make me happy by beautifully preserving the monograms ;-)

Trammway I have no words for your passion, persuit and perseverence you are showing to this magnificant machine hats off, I used to always wonder looking at this jeep when seen in any rallies, they look beautiful, sophisticated and not to mention luxurious, but most of them would have alloys and few modern fitments its nice to see a original face of Toyota FJ. I simply loved the outcome you have planned to and wish you all success. This thread will be a definate knowledge depot to an amateur like me.

Honestly I owe so much to both Shibu and Muthkumar for helping me getting my dream restored ;-)

FJ40 is going to be reaching to its original glory, however the restoration results will make you wait for longer than you think.

There are many more items that I need for completing this restoration, but as of now we are starting with the tin work, then the engine mounting and slowly the rest of the tasks to complete the vehicle such as cosmetics and upholstery.

Re: My Toyota Landcruiser FJ40

Hi Shiva,

As santosh might have updated you, we have pulled out the FJ40's Meter console & replaced with MM540's.
We will courier it across to you - please don't even think of paying for it.
The Tow hooks too should come to you but please & give me some time on it as i would like to replace the same with something similar just for the Looks sake not that i like all the bling bling but just the normal painted ones too will add some character to the jeep.
Please bear with me till i can pack the originals for u.

Regards,
Kumar

I don't have words to thank you man. The Generosity you guys have simply astonishing. I’m humbled and sure such support only boosts me to drive the restoration towards impeccable one.

Hold on don't remove the rhino hooks until I find a suitable replacement to your beautiful jeep.

Shibu, Muthukumar, Santhosh, Saad, Fahad and you are surely having a stake in the success story of FJ40 restoration.

Re: My Toyota Landcruiser FJ40

Isn't going to be "THE" happy message, when I hear powertwin saying the project restoration is on full swing?

Exactly, I felt like jumping earth to sky knowing that the FJ40 is all set to the operation theater.

Powertwin got a ryno hook sourced and fixed, and there are two things happening now 1. the body work and 2. the engine transplant.

I will let the pictures to take the duty of scribbling here:

Regards,
Nope, That one is a PTO gear box for CJ3B/Classic. I took it to Coimbatore to fabricate a on board air compressor attached to the Jeep using PTO.

Re: My Toyota Landcruiser FJ40

Friends,

Thought of sharing with you the Work in Progress pictures of the FJ40. Just in from Chirtra Garage, Coimbatore.

Really excited to see WIP pictures, as and when the work progresses I'm getting few must have parts list too. As of now the 5 speed Toyota Manual 4x4 gearbox is on look out as it is stopping some chassis and drive terrain work to be completed.

Along with the work, Powertwin revealed a fact about my FJ40 rear capacity. You know what a Maruti 800 can fit into the FJ40.

Re: My Toyota Landcruiser FJ40

Hi
Trammway
After going through your thread i have realised how i abused my fj40. Though there was always a guilt feeling when ever i came across a original example here in KSA. Seeing your passion i realised i made big mistake.

My cacha gifted me this fj when i passed my SSC and just joined college. This magnificantly maintained Fj40 1972(which i realised now) in Lemon yellow colour completly original only engine was of a DCM toyota one.
My ignorance and friends pressuring me to change the tyres to Ballon tyres(this is what we called radials) to give it that cool look,
Unable to find the 6 bolts wheels palnned to change the hub to 5 hole so that a sierra mag can be fitted. On finding a mechanic expert for jeeps adviced me to go for a mahindra housing and diff not knowing from where we can buy and how much it will cost. So depending completely upon him for the parts without much knowledge blindly paying him what he demanded.

Then the stripping process of fj and my wallet started.
Firstly removing the hard top for a soft one.

Then the steering wheel changed to cielo steering wheel for that had to chage the complete rod then the issue was will a manual steering support the radials thus change the comp steering assembly.

Got the doors cut to the height of rear fender. Thank fully didnt change the door handles as adviced by the denter and am glad still have the original.

Then came the gear box mech said for such engine there should be atleast 4 speed instead of 3 so got a mahindra 4 speed.

changed the seats to bucket seat.

There is alot more to write and am sorry to hijack trammway thead. When saw this restoration old memories came to my mind.

Good luck
Farooq
