hi jaskirat, congrats on your acquiring a jonga.i had one a long time back and its a beauty to drive with hardly any maintenance.with proper tuning i used to get 8+ kmpl on the highway.drove it for about 3 years before selling it.if you want to convert it to diesel i would advise you go in for nissan rd28.its a inline six cylinder which does not need much modifications to fit.recently i saw a jonga in dabwali with a rd28.it was almost like the petrol engine in pickup and noise level.i am based in patiala so you can contact me any time.i am also picking up a jonga from bathinda.

The 3.0L engine from Tata 407 Pick Up or Tata 207 Pick Up will be yet another option for diesel conversion of JONGA which doesn't needs any modifications in engine compartment. Many of JONGA's that were used in hill stations such as Darjeeling are fitted with these engines only.
As written in the thread, Jaskirat is keen on retaining 4.0L (3956cc) Inline 6-Cylinder Petrol engine.
@ Jaskirat:
Please post the pics of the restoration progress here asap !!! Eagerly waiting to see them.

Jonga without a 6pot is no Jonga in true words. Although fitting any other diesel engine will not do justice to the lovely 3 speed with inbuilt 4x4 transfer case as one piece.

Hi malgudi, here are some pictures of the interiors. I will start posting pictures as soon as I start the restoration in earnest. Right now I am just running the Jonga to explore what all needs attention.

Randhawa you have got a very keen eye.

That indeed is the front shaft that has been taken out as it has a slight bend. I am getting a new one either from Mayapuri / Jallandhar.

Its even possible to get one locally from Manimajra Truck market.

Considering the length of the shaft I thought it must be the front one as you are driving your jonga these days.

Yours is a first jonga I have seen with door glass and in his previous life it even had ICE installed in it. WOW

@ Randhwa,
The JONGA that is generally used in Indian Armed Forces doesn't used to be fitted with door glasses, except those JONGA's that are used by Army Officials & also those JONGA's that were used by Indian Army in Himalayan Rallies.

Re: Finally I have my JONGA

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to share some 'good' news. I have being successful in getting my Jonga registered in Chandigarh. It now has a CH03B series number.

The authorities in Chandigarh were very supportive. Though it took two inspections before they passed the Jonga, there was not much hassle otherwise.

With the Jonga now registered, I can finally focus on getting the restoration work started. The pictures would be posted on regular basis.

Regards

Jaskirat Singh
