Looks like there seems to be an issue with all VW cars, here is what I have for your car

I have tried to decode multiple VIN's provided on this forum and also for 3 of my cars but astonishingly though none of the Indian manufacturers seem to be following the standards set internationally for VIN generation or maybe its not just the dealers but also the manufacturers who are taking unwary customers for a ride.

BASIS:

The 9th digit of any VIN also known as the 'check digit' can only be a number between 0 and 9 or the letter "x" and is used to verify the accuracy of the transcription of the vehicle identification number. After all other characters have been determined in the VIN, the check digit is calculated based on a mathematical formula:

1) Multiply the numbers and the numerical values of letters in the VIN with assigned weight factor.

2) Sum the products and divide the sum by 11

Ex: WVWJ13601ET024453[COLOR=black][FONT=Calibri]5

From the example above the sum of the products is 287 and when divided by 11, the remainder is '1'[/FONT][/COLOR] which is the check digit.

I have tried this on various brands and it has always worked except for Indian manufacturers of the likes of Mahindra and Tata.

Considering lack of awareness amongst Indian car buyers, it leaves me in doubt if the manufacturers are following any protocol at all.

First of all many thanks for the elaborate guide on deciphering vehicle VIN , its a fantastic guide and has surely helped many bhpian's and non bhpian's alike , just a quick query on decoding Hyundai VIN's though , your guide at the beginning of the thread suggests a 19 character VIN for Hyundai however I have noticed only 17 characters when I bought a i10 for my mom earlier this year but luckily had the month of manufacturing from a friendly SA who doesn't work there any more, also have noticed few more similar posts from fellow bhpian's seeking your guidance and the info is needed again now as I'm planning to surprise gift fluidic Verna for my dad for Christmas , the fact that I'm in UK trying to arrange a remote buy with the help of my better half who travels to India next week makes it a bit complex as it would be great for her to have the info before she travels to make it a seamless process , could you kindly provide a detail guide on how to find the month of manufacture in the absence of the 19th character, all help would be greatly appreciated.

This method which has been shared to me by soumen.sam and works 90 times out of 100. :thumbs up

See the attached picture of the Hyundai VIN sticker which can be found in every car.

Also read the portions inside the Red rectangle box. i.e second character to seventh character.



Manufacturing date can be read as 31.07.2013. But it wont guarantee to give you the exact production date evey time as in Hyundai database. But most of the time it works.
