good work. you sure have a neat hand. looks like both m-seal and eraldite were used. how much is the struggle in sanding it up?
how is your hard disk doing? your friend is using a DVD drive also i think, is it reading properly while of on our roads?
what installed next to the fan in swift cpu, those 9 silver things visible out?
have you soldered the head unit wiring to its unit or using similar connector?

Thankyou spadival and gigy for clearing that up!

I would be requiring help in using the skinbedder with my car pc.

running AMD Athlon 2400+ with 80 gig 3.5" HDD ATI AGP card with 256Mb, 7" lilliput screen same as mine. ( remember i said i ordered two). PSU as inverter.
this is the best install ive ever seen here in India. ( in my opinion) .

its a red car so we named it REDPUTER..
Hi its good work!
How much is the RAM in the system. I suppose the 256 mentioned must be the video memory. Right?

Also has the system been installed below the drivers seat? Any particular reasons for doing so? Wouldn't it be more convenient below the front passenger seat. Also what is the switch with the On/Off switch/ the red LED and another red push button switch for?

In the second last pics there is this thing below the right vent and above the screen. What is this?

Further the plastic that you have used to make the box, can it be easily sourced?
What is the name of the material? Whats the cost material and how have held it together, Mseal/ Screws/ Araltide? Any tips would be great help as I too have decided to assemble my own enclosure.

Actually I too am in the process of doing R&D for my carputer and would like to learn from the experience of other T-Bhpian's!

the sanding part was done at my friend's garage. the passages were filled by "PATTI" which is used on cars o repair dents. and then sanding.
HDD is doing really perfect. it dint even skipped for once even on real Indian roads. i'd suggest every one to use their HDD's in this way. next to fan in swift cpu are 9 holes. we did this to keep the power supply kool.
yes the wires were soildered out from the HU and soildered in to the front.

yes 256mb is for VGA card. twe are using 1gig Ram for the CPU. no, there is no particular reason to install the cpu under the driver's seat, actually my frnd already installed his one of the ampunder te passenger's seat thats why it had to go under the driver's seat.
there is one more benifit if we put the cpu under the front seats i.e. it can be easily kooled from the a/c vents if selected on legs mod.
the on/off switch is to swtich on/off the inverter. the Red LED tells us if the system is on or off, and the puch button is for powering on and to reset the cpu if holded for more than 3-4 secs.

the thing under the vent is the sony ericsson's bluetooth car's handfree.

the plastic we used is PLEXIGLASS, it is easily avalible if you go out and look for where you find plastic hardware for industrial use. i used plexi galss in 6 pcs.. two 9x9"and four 9x3" 5mm thick and it costed me around Rs.600/-

tips:- 1st plan how you want to arrange the stuff, before buying the plexi. we screwed two small screws on every side and the were fixed with the elfy later when everything was finished. and for screws you need to drill little holes on the the plexi ( holes shoud not be in bigger diameter than the screws).. you gotta be very careful while drilling as it will crack easily if you do "DHAKKA".. and scrap the sheet.

all together it was pain in a$$ to get all things together in place while working with plexi.

let me know if you need any help while working with your pc setup.

Hi guys,
I am in the process of ordering the touch screen for my car PC.
I am not able to decide between the following
1. Lilliput 8" VGA Touch Screen TFT LCD Display
2. VM80B 8in LCD Touchscreen Monitor, VGA monitor screen touch, touch screen display

The Lilliput Touch Screen retails for about $260 (11,200) and the VM80B for $219(9500). As the cost difference is not much I would like to get an opinion as to what screen to order.
The lilliput has little a wider LCD screen (H141 X W186) and VM80B is 163 x 122. Though is only couple of cm's, but the bigger the better.

As I am not a technical person I am not able to decide what screen to buy.

I would really appreciate, if you all could take your time out and help me decide on the screen.

I have decided that I would connect my Dell laptop to this screen, and later on, maybe, put the CPU and all.

Thanks

The one that I have mentioned $260 is an 8" screen. I think that I would go in for the lilliput only. Also I am ordering a 10 or a 16 feet extension VGA & a USB cable to connect the screen to the PC.

Further I think that iRide don't offer 8" screens. They currently have only 7".

I have thought of hanging/ mounting the screen on the RVM inside the car(safari) and connect it to my laptop.

well 8" will be good on safari. and if you are ordering VGA & USB in 10 or 16 foot long, then i'd suggest you to goto come local computer shop and look for these cables with much cheaper cost.
and if you can place your laptop under the seat. there it will be cooler than in trunk and will avoid hanging problem.

Hi Monty,

Excellent installation. I have 2 questions. What is the stuff stuck to the right of display and what is the purpose of the box on picture 10 (single din enclosure), under the seat.
