SubWoofer and Amplifier Query EDIT: now need only Amp under 8k

Well I have bought few stuff for my Alto as mentioned in the following thread:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/sound-...bought-us.html

The primary constraint is Space. Since Alto is already cramped, I did not want to add any external subwoofer but now I am feeling that I'll miss a little more than a lot :P by not getting a SW.

Now that I am little inclined on getting a SW, I am bugged by another constraint.
The newer constraint is that I do not want to add in any amplifier and do want myself to be puzzled with that unnecessary hassles of getting a good enclosure, great cables.
All I want is a powered woofer assembly which is as small as possible. The rationale behind this is I should be able to chuck it out of the car, whenever I need the boot space.

I saw one install in a WAGON R, as posted by a fellow friend but then again he is using an AMP which i do not want to use.

Secondly i am tight on budget. I can spare 5-7000 max. Since I do not need a loud mouth stuff, anything that can produce that little sub 100Hz range, at moderate levels will be good for me. My 5K Creative 5.1 does that job good so i have a notion that I might get something similar in my modest budget.
If that is good for the purpose, I'll get one else I will be contented with the current set up.

Input guys !!!

the best i can suggest is please get an amp and a sub which is very much possible in that budget for sure, a sub without a amp and powering it directly off the HU will fry it.

you can get a 2 channel sony amp and a pio 10" or 12"/ jbl 10" sub in that range which can be conveniently tucked away under the seats.

rear 6x9's and a solid rear parcel shelf can give you enough bass, about as much as that creative sub of yours

A Polk 8" Sub with a Sony Amp will set u back by about 7K Maximum including Installation Charges. I Suggested the 8" Polk Because the Recommended Volume for the Enclosure is only 12 Liters !! Which can be tucked away under the seat i guess.Guess Your Car will be Totally "Polkified" Then.

I Suggested the Sony because it's the cheapest, A JBL Would do justice to the Polks .I would suggest a 4 channel as well to drive the 6 X 9 Maybe but it's over your Budget, Be sure to go through the classfieds of Teambhp to see weather any 4 channels are avilable for the price.

Dub

Hey Nitin,

IIRC DUB has a 8" powered sub with an inbuilt amplifier which i feel should siut ur need, contact B&T for details. Its small enough to fit in an alto boot and since it has an inbuilt amp it would lessen the clutter as opposed to adding an amp to the back of ur seat...

if you are ready to install a separate amp then i would suggest u either sony/kenwood 2 channel amp ~ 3000 rs and JBL 1000/1100 watts sub ~ 3000 and wiring kit ~1000 rs . but mind it you wont be able to get the full potential from these subs with a basic amp.

Iam totally confused now. I am not sure if i will buy an amp. It will defeat my purpose.

As pointed by greenhorn, I think i should first see how the polks work in the current configuration.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Nearly every compact Active Sub solution I've seen (Infinity BassLink, Kenwood w00x, Blau THb 210A or 200A, Pioneer PUMP etc) come at a minimum of 12-15K (I think the Blau 200A is 9K, but I'm not totally sure).

You might be able to find a Blau THb210A or a 200A at the nearest Blau showroom. They are pretty compact and will fit under most front seats. I don't think any of the other options are available with B&W (and they may not be easily available either - The Infinity is not sold in India officially & the w00x is out of production last I heard).

At any price point above 6-7K, I think an amp+sub combi will give 100% better bass.

As the others have pointed out, your best option at 7K may be a pair of 6x9s.

Thanks for the input buddy. I guess its better to get an amp and a sw. But I have procrastinated the idea for stage2.

Also as mentioned in the first post, I already have polk audio 6x9 inchers. Let us see how they fare.

what you are looking for is to augment the bass of the Polk 6x9s you have now.

lets take this in stages.
get a sony 2 ch. amp (under Rs 3K) and use it to drive the 6x9s. sometimes this might be all you need.

If this does not work you will need atleast a 10" sub (think Pio 252 etc..) which sell for about 4K. an 8" wont give you much more than the 2 6x9s already do.

SubWoofer and Amplifier query - 8K Budget

Ok i'll keep it short. My current set up is in my signature (jvc*with polks)

Lately I felt that I need a SW since the current sound lacks the lows i want.

The issue is I am short of funds and want to use minimum space.

Other requirements are that I dont want the bass to overshadow the sound. All I want is to add definition and depth to the sound. And since I dont hear my music too loud, anything good at fidelity and lacks in too much power will do.

The budget is 8K. And the thing should be able to get under the current MDF tray and should be able to leave some usable luggage space.

SW - JBL CS1204(gray) - around 2.8K (more or less depending upon the location)
Amp - kenwood 8401(gray) - 4.5K
Sealed box - around 1.5 K

Overshooting budget here cuz of a good sealed MDF box. Sealed box for CS1204 is 1 cubic feet. Its a very small box and will get under the tray easily and leave around 60% space in the boot.

Will post the pic tomorrow for the size of the box.

Thanks for the reply.

Well instead of having a separate enclosure, do we have some option of the company fitted sealed enclosure with sub ? I guess the company fitted stuff will be far more efficient.

Also what about the cables and all ? What all will I need ?
