Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

Gurus, there has been a change of plans after the sorry state of affairs in the aftermarket ICE dealers in Shillong and Guwahati. These dealers here know absolutely nothing.

So I have plans lined up for May 2011 and we are planning to drive down the 4x4 Safari to Delhi and Rajasthan. Since this is now set, I have decided to get the ICE done in Delhi and have set aside a budget of 40K or thereabouts for this.

First things first!

1. Your Car: 2010 Tata Safari VX 4x4

2. Your current setup (If any): OEM Setup. Crap speakers! Alpine DVA-9861E Head Unit. The HU has 3 pre-outs.

3. Your Budget: Maximum of 40K

4. Do you drive most of the time or is it chauffer driven? Self driven all the time.

5. Your Music preferences (Genres, favorite artists, etc.): I listen to a lot of Bollywood Chart busters when the wife is in the vehicle. When I am alone, I prefer the old classics from Lata, Kishore, Rafi and Mukesh. With new songs, I hate remixes but enjoy songs with a few beats and thump!

Additional Information: I listen to my music off an iPod. The HU serves me well for this and I plan to keep the same if possible. I am driving down the vehicle from Shillong to Delhi in the 2nd week of May and plan to get the install done there.

6. Are you ready to sacrifice your boot space/modify door panels? : I have spoken to a few members and as I understand, I can utilize the stock locations for the front and rear fills. The stock tweeter locations can be used as well. For the amplifier and the sub-woofer the boot can be used but without sacrificing usable storage space, especially considering that I will be driving down from Shillong to Delhi and back.

Also, please recommend the dealers/outlets/installers who can get this done for me. Please keep in mind that at the most I can spare one day for the install and cannot be expected to do it in 2 or 3 days.

Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

* Box for the subwoofer (dimensions depending on which sub you get - ~700-900) or the fiber-glass enclosure in boot (~2K)
* Power wires for amp (can be good Indian household wires) + RCA cables (not sure how many Pre-outs your Pio 4050 has). Otherwise buy a Scosche kit from an authorized JBL dealer - this would be costlier than get-your-own
* Damping - at least the front doors and the boot lid
@DerAlte and Navin

The SX4 has one preout so this can be connected via a mono amp to a sub right.
If i change the front comps and the real co-axials we connect to the existing HU and not via an amplifier other wise we loose the FAD controls right

So what is a possible solution for an sx4 wothout having to change the HU and yet having a crisp sound withtight base??

Thanks

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

@vampire, are you thinking of a 2-channel or a mono amp?

With a 4-channel amp, you can connect the single Pre-out to the amp, either by setting the amp to replicate the signal internally for the 2nd pair of channels (some amps can), or use a RCA Y-connector to get the signal to the 2nd pair. The rear speaker can be on the HU. This way, the sub level will reduce if Fader is set to rear, but Fader will work.

The drawback of driving speakers from HU and sub from amp is that it is really difficult to tune the system for balanced sound. Generally, either you will get music with overpowering bass, or if you tune the bass low, distorted sound with sufficient bass.

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

I have a civic that I want to ICE in stages over the next few years. You read right, years, not months, I'm a student, I don't have a budget, I need to save up for months together to change one component at a time, doesn't hurt to dream and plan right? That's probably what makes a true motorhead in the first place!,
I can compromise on boot space, But i want a completely stock look inside the car(except the HU)
I will eventually end up ICEing everything over time, HU, front, rear, amp, woofer(I'll get a job eventually right?)It'll take over a year or more and that's why I'm not starting a new thread
But my question is,Which part should i start with?
It's a self driven car, So I'm guessing it'll be a front based set up,
Varied taste in music, but I love punjabi, bollywood dhin-chak music! I want SQ, I don't need to show off to anyone that my system is better than yours, I enjoy long drives, alone or with people
What should the budget be to change whichever component you guys suggest first?
Thanks in advance

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

Hi DerAlte,

NHCs Alpine 560 has got 2RCA pre-out for SW Amp connection, and there is seperate SW On/Off and Volume control available in this HU. In this case also if SW Amp is used and Fr/Rr driven from HU, would it still be difficult to tune the system..

Also whats the difference between Infinity 6030cs and 6530cs... which one is better

Thanks..

So what do we do?
How does this sound
1. Use two pairs (Rockford) RCA convertors for the front and the rear speakers with the existing connections that is without the preout : just the wires. This way I dont loose fader controls. There after connect it via the 4 channel amp to the speakers
2. Use a mono amp or a two channel (which ever suits the pocket) from the pre out to the amp to the sub. But here i believe i wont be able to control the sub levels right? some new subs are coming with base control.

PS: Deralte I really appreciate you and the pther gurus for your continuous support to this forum : cheers mate

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

@vampire, keep the system simple. Tri-way using a 4 channel amp with rears on HU is the best way. Make sure the amp (not sub) has a remote bass control - use it for boosting bass when fading to rear.

There is no 'separate' volume control - there is 1 master volume control (knob). One can hook-up the 1 Pre-out (= L+R RCA sockets) to an amp and drive a sub, but what exactly is SW On/Off - is just a switchable HPF?

The difficulty in tuning is because of difference in power output of the internal and external amps, as well as the different points at which they distort (internal amp distorts earlier than external amp). So when the internal amp distorts, you will hear perfect bass with the other stuff distorted.

I have heard 6030cs but not 6530cs (newer, maybe meant to replace 6030). 6030cs sounds sweet (not bright), and I don't expect 6530cs to be substantially different.

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

I recently acquired used Palio GTX. Planning to put ICE and my max budget is 20K. I dont like Bright and too forward sounding as well as too laid back sound signature. It should have decent sound stage, musical seperation and airy feel. The high should go real high but not sparkle. I like dome tweeters rather than piezo tweeter setup. Also I dont need more bass at the same time it should not be bass shy. What i need is good music clarity something like Sound Magic PL30 earphones. It just need little more bass and little high. The vocals are too good for the price and midrange is excellent with reasonably better cound stage.

Please suggest me speakers, Hu and other stuff with in my budget.

1. HU JVC or Kenwood with usb and aux < 4.5K
2. component 5.25inch <5.5K (preferably with dome tweeter. How is bull
audio)
3. oval 6X9 matching the components < 4k
4. Amp (Is possible within the budget).

If you suggest without amp the sound will be crap. I will cut the oval and upgrade later.

Regards,
Vijay

@Vijaycool. 20K for installing the listed items would not suffice.

You need to select a good wiring and installer that itself will set you back by Rs.2K-Rs.2.5K

Decent 4-channel amps will start from 6.5K

Budget of 4.5K for a HU is too less. I am not sure if USB will be part of features in a HU for that price.

You may need to up your budget by another 5K to install a decent set-up.

@ vijaycool
- If you can live without a CD drive, you can check out JBL X333
- Amp should be first priority along with components. With an increased budget, you can accommodate a JBL 644 amp
- You can get JBL, Bull or Auditor components in your budget - they have slightly different sound signatures, and of these only JBL has service support I think
- Ditto for 6x9

Thanks DerAlte, you have said it right. Same master volume control knob is used to adjust SW level.

Subwoofer On/Off option is available in setup menu and if its ON, there is another menu to set the LPF(80/120/160)

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

Guys i am planning to install a decent budget ICE in Palio S10.
Its still stuck with that ancient cassette player.
Please suggest a good setup for 10k (might increase another 5k)
ICE: JBL 333
then what else should i add?
I want good sound clarity.
I like listening to ARR songs...not an audiophile but like crisp and clear sound.

How much will a cheap branded car DVD player cost?
i read somewhere that i can buy 7" screen for 2k.
I know i am asking for too much but please do suggest..

Just add 6 speakers front and rear. The 333 is about 4K, so that leaves 6K for the speakers. JBL, Bull, Blaupunkt etc.. make speakers for 3K per pair.
