But than he would need a seperate amp to drive the sub? correct. So if I do go with Alpine 340 for 7k and Sony 502Z for 2.5 k for the sub, wont it be too much load on the car battery and HU? Or is it perfectly normal?

Ayy what is is G d business lol

Observer, since you have no sub and good taste in music both the JBL and Alpine will sound perfect.
Honestly, the only thing going for that sony amp is the price, but the headroom, extra power and sound quality the better amps will offer you will add that "holy crap" to Knopfler and "ohmigod" to Nicks.

Buy either and you will really enjoy yourself.
'
Then later on, when you want to upgrade, when you need some bottom end bite, either buy a powered sub or a sub with a monobloc amp.

aseem, the 504Z is not MOSFET? what is it JFET? BJT? and aseem not all amps need a fan or high temp protection. and i think the term you meant was thermistor and not themometer. a thermistor is a temp. depedent resistor (vivek can fill is more details here).

if you run the 504 with 4 speakers (one per channel) I doubt you will have any issues. Also I'm told now that the 504 will shut down if there is a short across any of it's speaker inputs so it is quite usable. only when i heard it i foudn it a bit grainy and the HF was etched. At 4K it is fantastic VFM but if one can afford 3K more the 340 is a lot more refined.

no your car battery can easily handle 2 small amps like a 340 and 502.

Wow, I am overwhelmed by the response.

Thank you all!

So if I am on tight budget 504 is the one. On a little lax budget JBL 50.4 or Alpine 340. All would work fine on stock batteries, am I right?

Sam, now what speakers would u suggest? Will JBL, Infinity combo make sense?

Thanks

Red, one does not listen to 50cent on infinity speakers.

50 cent is very very very JBL sound. The words "......in the back of my car" always sound better on what we call "attacking" or "forward" sounding speakers. Deep bass, sharp treble etc.

I am sure Navin will agree with me here.

In fact 50 cent is Navins second favourite artist after Eminem.

"Go! Go! Go! Go! Navin in the house, let's paaaaaarty, MC Navin in the house"

WHAT? I have heard of M 'n M but not 50 cent (I got one as well as a dollar coin somewhere).

This guy Eminem has a song about his Mother that has some melody. goes something like
"I'm sorry to have hurt you, I'm sorry to have made you cry but tonight I'm coming out of my closet" heard it on the plane.

in any case if these guys are like Run DMC and The beastie Boys what i would suggest is a sub and tweeters! :-) just kidding. Go JBL.

Infinity speakers are for Vivaldi/Beethoven/Mozart. What say? I listen to the works of these composers but for the time being they will have to play on JBLs. Of course, I am going to keep a sub for those days when I want to party. :

I listen to these as well as 60s and 70s rock as well as jazz. infinity is for those who find an extended hf fatiguing and tighter bass. others prefer the extended hf and the slightly highish Q on the tweeter and the midbass hump on the woofer. it is a matter of taste. neither is better than the other.

so why are infinity more expensive....
the characteristics of the drivers and crossovers needed are expensive. this is a long long explanation which will demand some very detialed acoustic knowlege to be used. This is not a forum for that. forums like www.diyaudio.com are better suited for this.

As a rule, Infinity is slightly more elitist. The materials used are always better, construction is better quality and the sound is always more refined. Because of this they always cost more, both in Home and car audio.
