I would take apart teh door panel and see if a 5.25" can fit from the rear. if so you can do a rear mount with 5.25" in the front. I would be very surprised if it did not fit. I had put 5.25" fronts in my zen iin 1995. ofcoruse teh zen was different then but i would be surprised if they changed it so much.

mclaren,

You can fit 5.25" in the front door of zen without cutting the grille. You have to use MDF ring to mount the speaker to avoid the speaker magnet touching the window glass.

For 6.5" i will have to see the pictures of the door panel.

hey autophile had a very long discussion with gunbir yesterday and ya the best way seems to be to use an mdf ring for the 5.25'' compos..but as gunbir suggeted the 6.5'' compos to be way better im prepared to do any kind of mods to the doors to accomodate them..and as gunbir and u suggeted to post the pics of the door panel here they are:

well these pics are from a zen door that was lying at my garage..the same design is with my door too..even my mechanics suggested that the window glass operation wont be possible if 6.5'' compos are fitted without any mods to the door..ur views on this..

True, SK, JB and SQ are really going all out to help. mcLaren I think the 5" would be your safe option. unless ofcoruse you get a 6" that is just as shallow. besides the door is a small box, a lossy but small box nonetheless, and hence just maybe a 5" would be a nicer fit (physically and acoustically). if it only experimenting with MDF rings to try out the 6" I would try out both.

Mc Laren,

Stick to 5.25" its a better option. USe good quality speakers, components preferably and you will get pretty good sound.

In older zen it was still easy to fir bigger speaker because the grille could be removed and you can mount the speaker over the doorpanel with the MDF ring.

ya agreed the older zen was easier to fit bigger speakers..but is there no way i can fit 6.5'' components at the front on this one even on using the mdf rings..u said fitting 5.25'' is a better option but that also means 6.5'' are possible but difficult na..well y not try it out..guys need ur inputs badly..im badly stuck whether 5.25'' or 6.5''(play safe or take a risk)..

6.5" can be fit..they have been done in a friends car..needs a bigger ring but also involves the door pad to be cut a little bit...call the guy whose number i gave you..might be able to see it on one of his zens then you can decide

You can install 6.5" but it need a lot of modifications to door area...bigger cut out in the door and modify the door panel. Plus most likely there will be a problem in fitting the door panel because 6.5" midbass installed with MDF ring will obstruct.

mclaren, a speaker needs room to breathe. bigger is not always better. been there done that even in the old zen the 5" sounded better (both were Vifa).
