I think it has pick-up from Calicut, I've seen it couple of times, but all the time I saw was at night so couldn't snap it!

ULE buses

Ashok Leyland is getting ready with its new Ultra Low Entry (ULE) buses to be delivered to DTC. Media reports also suggest similar buses are ordered by AP, Rajasthan, Maharashtra RTC etc.

For News: The Hindu : Business : Leyland to roll out hi-tech buses from Alwar plant

Any idea if AL has collaborated with a Chinese company for these low-floor buses? I remember reading something of that sort a year ago.

[China] Beiqi Foton co-operated with Ashok Leyland | www.eobus.com

Here we are - yes, the DTC buses from AL indeed are with Chinese collaboration.

Basic chassis frame and suspension system from Chinese Beiqi Foton
Engine will be supplied by Cummins
Gearbox by Allison
Purely Indian are the body panels, supplied by Azad, and the board electronics

So AL's contribution is the factory and the brand value? Whatever happened to their in house engineering skills?

Al is ready with 50 buses for delivery to DTC but DTC has refused to take delivery stating four main defects:-
1. The towing hook is defective and while towing the Recovery is bound to break the windshield of the bus (which costs around Rs 20,000).
2. The rear tail lights are too small and not effective in the night.
3. The emergency door-open switches outside the bus are placed too far away from the doors.
4. The glass used in windows is said to be of inferior quality as the view from inside is waivy and not clear.
One of my sources ( in the delhi govt) has told me that DTC is alltogether regretting giving the order to AL and is rethinking about the future orders.
