My cousin owns a AL and a eicher. He told me they run regularly on kerosene-diesel mixture. Though they have to replace the fuel pump every year due to this, but cost of it is nothing compared to the money saved by this mixture throughout the year.
He didn't mention the effects of this on engine though.

why is the magazine not loaded??

rifles without magazines are way of showing the friendliness towards the local population and not the offensive & tough side of the UN protection force!

i think these are images from congo.
YES

BTW do they bring these vehicle back after the mission or donate them.
IA does bring back all their equipment. its the americans and canadians who destroy their vehicles and scrap them!

@ SirAlec, Yes sir, ask any trucky and he will tell you its easy to get it albeit in black market. You can find these kind of kerosene dealers at any dhaba or truck stop. I am sure not only my cousin but many truckies are doing it. This kerosene isn't officially purchased, it is mostly stolen.

Hope this is from the LSV trials. BTW, what's the status of the trials? who won the bid? Heard the Mahindra, Vectra & Tata got struck in the trials @ Sunderban & AL truck was pressed in to service to pull them out.

Is it OK to post some weird and useful modifications?
From the scrap yard:
Custom rear bumper! Guess it was used for towing purpose.

Most of the Gypsys will have this foldable foot step.

This one was spotted at Secunderabad Railway Station. :(

Look at the eighth photograph carefully.

Re: 4x4s in the Indian Army

Hello to you DB sir, hope all is well at your side of the world.

Thanks for your comments on the photos. specially on the NG chassis of 550 in the indian army.

I wanted to know if MM still continue to supply the product or it has gone out of production. Well if its a classified information, then no need to reply.

I have contacted a well placed source who is going to find me a good condition NGCS and rebuilt it. It sure will take time, but in that time if Thar is launched with Diff Locks, then its no holding back!

Dear Parm - thanks for your prompt reply. I am absolutely fine, enjoying my very exciting assignment. MM540 is not made anymore, Thar CRDe4WD and TharDI4WD and 2WD are made and sold. I do not know whether you know it or not, I do not work in M&M now, I work in Tata Motors Pune. I would love to read your comment on the 8th picture of your yesterday's post, please revert.

Best regards,

Dear DB sir, i counted 3 times to come to the 8th picture of the mix of army vehicles.

I must say that all three OEM vehicles are there in this 8th picture which includes the MM 550 and Rakshak. MG 413 King and the Tata Sumo.

Lets talk about the Tata Sumo which is a rare 4x4 supplied to the India Army. Its all hooked up with jammers which are used to jam the signals of IEDs along the road.

I have seen one rare Tata Sumo 4x4 in the UAE, but sadly i dont have its photo any more, it got deleted.

Anyway coming back to the Sumo 4x4, i can only imagine it being based on the Aria/Aria 2 platform in the form of a SWB or MWB hard top with AC, similar to a Defender 90, being offered to the civilians in india.

I could only imagine you and your team brain storming your collective experience and knowledge to bring in a vehicle to take on your earlier re-carnation of CJ5 (Thar) and the newly launched FM Gurkha.

Well both MM550 (Thar) and FM Gurkha have a pedigree of 4x4 specialist army specific vehicles from the Willys Jeep and the MB G-wagen.

Now since Tata has the JLR in its kitty, im sure there is no stopping it from converting an existing Tata Sumo on the similar lines of Defender 90. Since it will be expensive to launch a Defender 90 itself in the indian market, its better to make a defender 90 inspired product out of Tata Sumo.

All i can say Sir ji....Tusi Great Ho!

Re: 4x4s in the Indian Army

Sorry to be poking my nose into the conversation but doesn't the TATA Sumo suffer a bit of an image problem? It being a favorite for taxi operators, it is seen more as a commercial vehicle than a family/recreational vehicle.

Just speculations as of now, but if TATA is developing a rough and tough 4x4 vehicle hugely based on the Sumo, and that resembles the Sumo in the looks department, then this could turn out to be a bit risky I think (IMHO). Purely because of the image associated with this model.

TATA do have other models they could easily consider keeping low cost and affordable in mind, namely the Grande MK II and the Xenon. With the Xenon pickup (commercial) recently launched at a fairly reasonable price, my hope would be for a heavy duty 4x4 based on this model. Both my fingers and toes crossed
