The color looks like Marcopolo in Delhi. (Image from Times of India)

The bus in the pic is certainly not for Delhi. Two reasons for that:
1. The green buses in delhi are non-AC. The one in the image is an AC bus.
2. The buses in Delhi are CNG driven (mandatory by law). The one in the image is Diesel driven. (Going by the absence of CNG 'bank' on top of the bus)

  1. The buses are normal Tata non AC buses(i.e. not fully built ones like starbus/globus/marcopolo). Bodies seem to be built locally. There was no body builder's plate on them. Body quality was good.
  2. I have no idea regarding power of the engine. But the acceleration was fantastic.
  3. Bus lanes are at the centre of road. ONLY BRTS buses are allowed in the lanes. Even the normal municipal city transport buses have to travel outside.
  4. Buses have doors on both sides - left as well as right. At the starting point at RTO circle, the door on the left is used. At the rest of the stops, the right door is used. The left door has steps. Right side door does not have any steps.
  5. The height of platforms at the bus stop perfectly matches with the floor height of the bus. So one has to just walk into the bus. No climbing involved.
  6. Bus stops have closing doors. Drivers align the door of the bus perfectly with the door of the stop. There is a box with "STOP" written on it which indicates where the driver should stop. That box has some sensor in it, which probably detects presence of bus and opens the door of bus stop.
  7. There are displays inside bus stops which show time left for the next bus.
  8. Buses do not have on board conductors. Tickets have to be purchased at ticket windows provided at each stop. Each stop also has a route map and fare chart.
  9. There are separate signals for BRTS buses.
  10. BRTS staff is posted at each junction. At unsignalled junctions, they stop all traffic whenever they spot a bus. Bus has first priority.
  11. There are around 40-45 buses. Frequency is 4 minutes.
  12. The other road users have some sense. They do not enter BRTS lane at all!
I am very much impressed with this system! This should be a role model for the other cities. Everything has been perfectly thought out. Just one sore point is that the buses do not have any cushioning.
How I wish such a system to be implemented in bangalore/Hyderabad !

hats off to the govt in gujarat who could pull it off & kudos to the sensible people following lane discipline such an empty lane in hyderabad, would be serious fun time for folks cutting across lanes.

Which bus are you talking about? I thought we were discussing about the pics posted by 'jeepster' and not the one posted from the Times of India.

The ones posted by Jeepster are indeed AC Marcopolos - they do not have window rails.

My point was that the bus in the pictures posted by Jeepster is NOT from Delhi, due to reasons posted earlier.

But the bus right behind the Marcopolo is a DTC bus and it has side rails too. Route 374 to Nehru place. God knows what you are talking about ?

Plush Mercedez-Benz Buses Added to City Fleet in Bangalore

After air-conditioned Volvo and Tata-Marcopolo buses, commuters in Bangalore will now get Mercedes-Benz buses to make their city rides comfortable.

Two AC Mercedes-Benz buses were introduced on an experimental basis Saturday with a flat fare of Rs.5 for the first three days. They will ply on various routes till Sep 11 to gauge commuters' response.

Looking at the current state of the ALL RE LF buses at Kochi, i think they are not suitable for the narrow, crowded Kochi streets. Looks like they are too long...

MH14 busses in Bangalore?

Wonder if Bangalore city adminstration has just taken these on a trail basis or on a short term rent?

Should be on Trial basis, otherwise why would Mercedes retain its stickers on the vehicle. These buses cost the same as a Volvo, but do not have the electrically adjustable RVM , nor is there another set of mirrors for front blind spot like in Volvo.
