Re: Mumbai BEST buses go hitech ??

What exactly do you mean by refurbished? Anything apart from the routine repainting?

Re: Mumbai BEST buses go hitech ??

Could be change of seating capacity and better seats (instead of the old bench, the modern plastic seats!). I seriously hope that govt makes it mandatory to buy buses that are fully built (like Globus/sturbus), resulting in better looking + safe public transport system.

Refurbishment in BEST speak means possiblity of new seats (dont know if that's happening yet though) but surely new or re-pressed sheet metal and new good-quality paint.

Re: Mumbai BEST buses go hitech ??

Those buses will definitely not be taken for refurbishment at such an early stage in their life. You probably saw a bus painted by a garage in Marol to whom BEST has outsourced painting. Their paint job is far better than depots. You must have mistook it for a refurbished bus. I request you to check again.

No, I know their paint style. That's totally different. This one was even better looking than that job and its registration number font was quite different!.

Re: Mumbai BEST buses go hitech ??

Any new upgrades planned for Kinglongs? Seems like half of them are down for repairs and paint work at Wadala depot. Best would be to sell them to non metro municipal corporations and switch to Globus/AL/Volvos. However, they don't have the necessary money and I am asking for too much.

Somehow, the pioneers of a particular thing (e.g. AC bus service) always lags behind; the competion comes and flaks it!

Thats one good news. That is the second CNG Volvo on trials in India. DTC is still running trials of one bus, now NMMT becomes the second utility.

Re: Mumbai BEST buses go hitech ??

The AC buses which start from Oshiwara Depot to Colaba are Volvo ones. I'm yet to travel by them.
The last time i travelled on that King Long bus it had some sort of a gearbox problem & it refused to go above 10km/hr. The Driver decided to take the bus back to the depot after taking a round of Lokhandwala. Voila, as soon as the bus got nearer to the Depot it started working fine. Eventually a new bus came & this whole fiasco took me 3hrs to reach Haji Ali!

King Long buses till now plying on the mumbai roads and claimed to be orginally bought from China are nothing but local builds. The scam was exposed by Mumbai Mirror/Times of India. These are actully Cerita buses built by the Jaycee coach builders of Mohali Punjab and King long only provided a few parts for the bus.

Mumbaikars have been living with this lie since the time these buses were introduced. The joke is that these buses were rechristined King Long at the time of inaguration by the then late CM MR Deshmukh and BEST officials. More details in the links below
