Would involve removing the dashboard to access the instrumentation cluster.

Once that's opened, the cover holding the i console shark b be open need to expose the bulbs which are mostly T10 / T5 or w5w.
This means that bulbs would not be hard to procure. Only the installation part is difficult, plus there might be rattling problems are the install.

I will drop this plan for now and would seek help from an experienced person in the future. And I am sure the cabin would feel more plush at night after this small change.

Go to AliExpress and you'll get great deals on these bulbs.

Rattling is my main worry and workmanship hence avoided it.

a4anurag : I had a query. I am looking to install LED lights (or maybe the COB DRLs from ebay) in the front footwell of my Swift.

I have ordered a 200 rupee COB DRL set (for the time being) offline from an Electrical shop. I have a complete layout in my mind for placement but I am not sure about the wiring.

I want them to be connected with the Cabin Lamp (to light up with the doors ajar) but wiring till the roof won't be an easy task for me. Is there any other method to wire (like tapping a wire, taking current from fuse box) it?

MODS - Please move if needed.

AFAIK, get a fuse tap and wiring required to connect the foot well lamps.

That can be connected to the Dome (7.5A) in the BCM that is located near the accelerator pedal.

It is a similar process used by Arun in the above link.

I am a noob in this area, so have a silly question. Does the cabin lamp fuse get power (current) through the functioning of the switch (for on, off, door) or through the main ignition (or always as cabin lamp is directly through battery)? If it has current all the time, I think my lights (DRL) would remain lit all the time. If it gets current only in the Door and ON position, then I can go ahead with tapping a fuse.

What I want - The lights power ON with the cabin lamp, basically by the switch for OFF-DOOR-ON.

I am thinking of 2 ways to do this -

1. Route the wiring all the way up to the cabin lamp (i.e. roof) or till a place where I can find the cabin lamp wiring. Tap the wire and be happy. This way a lot of wiring would be needed.

2. Tap the cabin lamp fuse. This would do the job with less wiring.

One more question - Will power supply be enough for the 6-8W each DRLs? I have a festoon LED like in your car which would be less than 5W I assume. But anyway, I won't use it for more than 10 minutes per day.

Amazing DIY Anurag sir! IMO, it is much more practical than the common bulb. Lower power + Better lighting + Good looks. Now that is pretty impressive. I'm looking to do this on my mom's Gi10.

How many LEDs do you think I can fit in there and will the process be the same? Looks like this is gonna be my first DIY.

Will this void the car's warranty?

Thanks in advance!

What I'll need you to do is open that plastic cover so that I can judge the size of the festoon bulb that will fit in.

IMO 16SMD should be good enough.

Warranty may not go void. Not sure how Hyundai functions.

IMHO 24 SMD should be fine enough. Go for the spring loaded one.

I'm giving you two suggestions. Though I'll pick the first one as it is reliable and better in terms of long-term life and quality. Go for the Speedwav if you are short on budget.

1. Philips Fest 14x30 LED 12941 6000K Interior Bulb (12V, 1W)
Philips Festoon

2. Speedwav 16 SMD LED festoon bulb:
Speedwav 16SMD

Do update here after your D.I.Y!

IMO, getting a festoon bulb directly is better rather the spring loaded with the LED strip being separately stuck which will not be reliable.

Thank you. Can you also post pics of the actual assemblies so that I can understand the diagram better. I guess I can use the cabin light for my boot as it mounts on the ceiling in the Aspire. Any idea about the cost?
