Very nice shot. If you had put a little more space on top, and reduced the exposure a little bit, it would be even better.

Thanks Nilanjay. agree with you. unfortunately it started raining just after and I could not go to a better vantage spot.

Will take this advice for future.

Backyard Bird Photo shoot with 250 mm lens

Hello people,
Had a fabulous vacation for 10 days during Christmas & New year and this time we decided to spend the vacation at my native place as we never stayed more than couple of days in the last 5 years.
It was me, my wife and our 4 years old daughter drove down to our home.
What do I do with with canon kiss x7i and a 50-250 mm USM lens while lazing at my home? So tried bird photography first time in the backyard of my home. It was nice chilly foggy mornings (after 8 AM if you agree to call it as morning ) almost everyday with lots of birds chirping!

Here are few amateur snaps of domestic birds seen day-to-day at my village.

Feedback needed

I think many of my shots were getting somewhat ruined during post processing due to wrong monitor calibration. They were underexposed and lacked contrast.

Question: is the first image too dark and less 'contrasty'? And is the second one looking better (it is a little oversharpened, ignore that)?

I prefer the first one though contrast is higher on the second

Ouch. The second one is looking ugly on my mobile with auto-brightness.

Very nice shots.

And now on my laptop monitor too. What an abomination.

Actually it is not bad, it looks fine, slightly overexposed. You need a good monitor AND a calibration software so that monitor's potential is realized.

Never use a laptop monitor. (Apple retina can be an exception). The regular office laptop is a strict no. Even a simple 22 inch Dell under 10K with a 1080p resolution should be good enough to begin with.

I used a couple of free calibration tools, but not happy, getting different results. I will need to buy a proper monitor and invest $100+ in something like Spyder.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

@nilanjanray - I have this issue with my monitors at home & office too The colours & contrast seem different on both !! Even when the source is the same ! I have no understanding of fancy colour tuning et al but I wish I could fix that !

@ampere - Nice pic (Y)

@riturajsharma - nice pics !
