:Shockked: On the INS Viraat? Sweet!
The only time I've seen it was when it docked at the Kochi Port.
Any more pics of the ship,Rehaan?

Yeah, as luck would have it this was my second or third time on the ship. The first time(s) it was in port. However, THIS time was awesome... a large part of the Western Fleet was out at sea together. All the ships did a "steam-by" past the Viraat, one submarine as well, a destroyer came alongside and the crew demonstrated a jackstay (thats what the rope in the earlier picture was for), 3 chetaks took off from the deck (very noisy turbine engines), 2 sea-kings as well... and best of all 2 sea harriers took off from the ramp and did a flyby (they were supposed to fire missiles, but didnt due to fishing boats in the area) and then landed back on deck VERTICALLY!

Here are three more "worthy" pictures, and then the rest for those who are interested.

(FYI - camera = Canon point and shoot A710 IS)

This one was taken by my friend (TBHP: uttamc)

And here are the others:
- Notice how high up the viraat is compared to the (delhi class?) destroyer
- Noitce the rope shot across the bow of the destroyer from the viraat (this is the first line used to pass the jackstay rope accross)
- The guys walking across deck are doing a "FOD" (foreign objects detection) to check for anything that might be on desk that can cause trouble if sucked into the intake of any aircrafts (chips packet, chocolate wrapper, etc)
- The chetaks circle constantly while the harriers come in for a landing incase they need to do a search and rescue for the pilot if something goes wrong during landing.
- The damn little fishing boat who ruined all the missile fun. (only smoke flares were fired from the harriers instead)

I will try to get the videos of the harriers landing vertically.... quite awesome.

Superb pics,Rehaan. Thanks a bunch!
I did see a similar set of pics on the website Bharat Rakshak. It had the Viraat & other ships of various classes in a demonstration for the public. Impressive stuff!
:thumbs up
