Re: Google+, A new competitor to Facebook

First Impressions of Google Plus.... It's everything Facebook should and could have done in the past 3 years...however battle has just begin and this time FB is not facing some VC funded startup which it could buy and squash.. Only thing I wish Google supported was Facebook Connect and ability to import my FB friends into Plus... Too much effort to build another social graph!

1> Well most of my friends use Gmail so i guess rebuilding a social graph should not be too tough, besides it's a one time effort.

2> I'm quite sure the Google+ app on Android will work as advertised... the Facebook App is REALLY bad..

3> Now google is the oracle of everything online.. well actually its most things for the average joe...
From searching, to social networking, to videos streaming, to email.

I'll definately switch as soon as i can get on board.

Re: Google+, A new competitor to Facebook

Few Tips for Google+

1. Immediately go into your Google+ Settings and modify you notification settings. You’ll learn quick that Google+ will fill up your email inbox pretty quick.
2. Import Facebook contacts to Yahoo, import Yahoo contacts to Google+, make circle named Facebook, share posts to Facebook circle.
3. There are no “Friend Requests.” Anyone can add you to their circle, it’s a lot like “Following” someone on Twitter.
4. Loophole to invite more friends: Make a post. Share post with someone by email. Have friend click “Learn More About Google+” and from there they can sign up.
5. The auto upload feature for pics and videos doesn’t mean all your pictures and videos will be shared with everyone automatically. They will be stored in a “ready to share” folder where you choose which pics/videos to share to Google+.

Getting back to the topic, Google+'s UI is really cool. I feel Google+ is a mix of Facebook and twitter, plus those friend circles. Not a bad idea, but I fear this wont overthrow Facebook.
There are some security concerns though. Its like making your already public life more public.

Kind of reminds me of this TED video :

Stealing your personal preferences without your knowledge . Really bad . If you look at the video you'll feel that google has now gotten into profiling of sorts !

Its not only limited to the ADs , watch the video that I posted in the earlier post , the search results also differ . So when you search INDIA you might see different results and I would see different results . And I dont feel good about this kind of profile building .

^ You can make status updates, photos, wall posts visible/hidden to a particular list or a group of lists in FB.

About comment privacy, if the guy on whose status you are commenting has his wall enabled only for his friends, then only your mutual friends can see the post.
