Okay, try this.
Sign into the gmail account that the invite was sent on.
On the top, there is the usual Google tab with Photos, Documents etc. The 1st entry should be your name+, eg. "Nishad+" since my name is Nishad. Click on that, you should be directed to your G+ home page. If not, your profile ain't created yet.

I just realized another thing.

If you've just changed your display pic; if you click on it, the earlier one comes too. Something like a toggle switch thingy. Don't know for how many pics this is valid.

Another thing :

Someone adds himself to my Circle; then I confirm him in my Circle; even then I still have to go to his profile and add myself to his Circle? Is that how it works?

3rd thing :

Apart from the Circle thingy, what are "Followers" : I have some Followers and I am Following someone.

When I try the above steps, I come back to the same page with field test message. Instead of "my name+", I see "+ you". I have a Google profile btw.

Yep. Looked like they plugged all the holes. I kept trying those things all day today afternoon at work (to keep myself awake ) , and all the time it just sent me back to the original page.

Dunno how much it would help, but if you have a access to an American proxy, use that. It will then allow you to join by simply opening the G+ home page.
Looks like they are restricting the requests coming in from India.

Google Plus seems like a orkut reboot with a facebook look to it. There is nothing drastically new about it to a facebook user, plus going through the whole process of adding your friends there (most of whom if not all will be on facebook)

If anybody wants to post anything on FB and Google+ at the same time. Here's how :

Get your facebook mail id.
Add the same to your google plus circle
post on + to the circle with the FB mail id.

It automatically goes to the FB mail from where it'll get posted to FB
