Don't know about the pricing of 70-300, but if the IQ is nice, that'll be the next lens in my kit.
I am really upset at Canon. When I heard about a new 70-300 (canon rumours) I wished it would be a 70-300/2.8 EFS or at least a 70-300/4 EF even if Canon had to use 77mm glass to achieve this. It would be a perfect compliment for the 17-55/2.8 EFS and an upgrade for the 55-250 EFS.

I guess they sacrificed speed to make the lens an EF lens instead of EFS. We EFS guys do not have a decent fast tele-zoom (the EF guys have 3 different 70-200Ls).

The 60D with it's articulaing screen and HD video looks like a logical upgrade for my 40D (months of XXD owners enying the 550D video capability ends). I hope it has a metal mount like older XXD cameras.

Is it any good ? I had them and its now resting in its plastic case as I found some difference in the contrast and sharpness. It may be different with Hoya or B+W or Cokin and they are terribly expensive too.

this is what dpreview says
" Polycarbonate resin with glass fibre on aluminum chassis"
as opposed to "Magnesium alloy body" of 50D

The EOS 60D has a metal EF / EF-S lens mount which means that it can use the full range of Canon EF lenses as well as the designed-for-digital EF-S lenses.

I think all canon DSLRs (APS-C) currently in the market can use full range of canon lenses, even the old 350D

I've not yet found any reason to complain. Hoya, Cokin etc., are terribly expensive. If it is CPL then Hoya or Cokin is considered. Just to keep the lens coating safe and dustfree, Marumi should be ok..

How good or bad is Hoya G series ? I am seeing some really cheap deals on net in US and can get them carried over to India by someone ? What about tiffin ? Can anyone provide feedback

Guruji, any particular reference in CC??

I am considering D3000/5000/3100. I have heard a lot about the place and deals it offers!

Would be great if you could give some pointers, will be visiting sometime around Diwali.

Which lens you plan to buy in 10K and is it critical for your usage ?
10k is just the starting budget for 55-250. I will upgrade later provided the housing supports it. Feature wise as well, i think 450d is better than 1000d

Thanks, i am now inclined towards 450d. Its out of stock at some stores here :(

If video is not important 450D is actually the sweet spot. I do not have any idea about nikon, so cannot comment on that.
that proves 450d is technologically advanced - thanks.

Only when you come to stuff like indoor, sports you worry about AF speed and accuracy. For long exposures you worry about noise, for handheld night you worry about high ISO noise.
Most of my pics are on a P&S cam so they are both indoors and outdoors. At present i have a multipurpose cam so i click what i like adjusting few things on the cam.

I am yet to reach the level where i can say i like a particular type of photography. A PRO level

I agree with you. Its good if people graduate from P&S first but thats just my opinion. There would be many folks who started with DSLR and are doing just great.

I think it should be a 450d.

Thanks for your help guys

Someone is selling an year old 450D on BPC forum for 19k. Have a look. You can master the skills and upgrade to a 7D or 1D Mark III or IV whenever you feel the upgrade itch .

This price sort of confirms what Jayesh told me; that the D90 prices have gone up slightly in the last few weeks, with limited availability.

The 600 and the 500 have not been released yet but are still under development and will be released soon. They have shaved off almost 500 gms from their 300 2.8 versus the Nikon 300 2.8. If they shave off a good amount of weight off their 600 and the 500 I would be very interested and go for a Canon 300 and a 600 for my birding needs.
